Product Overview TASCAM’s US-2x2 combines great audio quality and ergonomic design for a powerful 2-in/2-out USB 2 Audio interface.

Two of TASCAM’s Ultra-HDDA mic/line preamps provide up to 57dB of gain with nearly inaudible noise and distortion specs. The audio design features high-performance, musical components like NE5532 op amps for rich sound quality without coloring the source.

The US-2x2 includes class-compliant drivers for plug-and-play operation on Mac OSX and iOS devices like the iPad, and a simple driver adds ASIO compatibility for Windows. MIDI in and out are also included for connecting synths, drum machines, and controllers. The interface includes two DAW applications to choose from – both Cakewalk SONAR X3 LE and Abelton Live Lite 9.

With solid audio specs, iOS compatibility, and an easy-to-read angled design, the US-2x2 is the ultimate 2-channel interface for home, project, and mobile studios. Features • Two Ultra-HDDA mic preamplifiers

Firewire
Date Issued: 21st Oct 2008

You've probably read the USB Tekspek, and perhaps your intrigue, or product interest, has lead you to look up Firewire as well. The two are similar in some respects, particularly some of the products that use the two technologies. However, Firewire has its differences, which means it has both benefits and drawback when compared to USB. This Tekspek will look at Firewire and also look at it with respect to USB.

System Buses & Bandwidth
Date Issued: 21st Oct 2008

In computing terms, system buses are used to connect various components to the motherboard’s core logic and, often, to each other. Modern PCs run with a multitude of high-speed buses ranging from the interconnects between, say, the chipset and the CPU, graphics card, memory, and peripherals.

Reviews
Rated 5 out of 5 by 1 reviewer.
Rated 5 out of 5 by High quality in every way, easy to use and setup I bought this Tascam US-2x2 primarily for use as an external sound card for use with a machine with a server-class motherboard with no on-board sound (Asrock E3C226D2I), and also so I could swap it between machines easily by just plugging it into a USB 3 hub with my keyboard, mouse etc, and swapping the hub between the machines. Initial impressions were that this was a well built piece bit of kit, going by the solid feel of the case. No creaking plastic here. On first power-on I was happy to find that the standard snd_usb_audio driver in Linux supports all the inputs and outputs - no extra drivers or software needed, literally plug and play. In Windows 8.1 the drivers (relatively small and no annoying programs that run in your tasktray) from the Tascam website work perfectly. Output latency with ASIO driver output is apprently 1ms, and it certainly seems instantaneous using a MIDI keyboard with a soft-synth. Sound quality is noticeably better than the motherboard on-board sound I was using before, especially in the bass - but due to lack of testing equipment, that is just my subjective opinion. No distortion when you crank up the volume. The unit stays cool to the touch, and seems to be happy with being swapped between machines while it is powered up. I've never had to unplug it to reset it. 25 June 2015
