Takamine - 'GX18CE' - 3/4 Size Electro Acoustic
A taka-mini from Takamine
The GX18CE from Japanese manufacturer Takamine is a ¾ size, single cut, electro-acoustic with sublime mahogany back and sides and solid spruce top. This helps give this magnificent guitar a rich, warm and full-bodied tone, with the spruce top helping to bring out the guitars naturally prominent mids usually found on mahogany bodied guitars.
The GX18CE’s mahogany neck is attached at the 14th fret and boasts a wonderfully smooth and fluid 21-fret rosewood fingerboard, whilst the single cutaway allows for fantastic upper-fret access. Takamine included their own ‘TP-4T’ preamp on the GX18CE, alongside a solid and reliable rosewood bridge, and die-cast machine heads which will reassure anyone that the quality of this guitar and it's components, from top to bottom, is stellar.
Takamine Quality
A dream to play The hardware on Takamine’s GX18CE is solid throughout, from the spaciously arranged, sealed die-cast machine heads which hold the guitars tuning fantastically well and allow for precise movements when tuning, to the solid rosewood bridge. The rosewood fingerboard is simply a joy to play on, from top to bottom, and the 42mm nut width is perfect for smaller hands, but also equally comfortable in larger sized hands. Takamine added two sturdy strap pins onto the body, which sit unobtrusively and are placed perfectly to ensure the guitar sits at a comfortable angle when using a guitar strap and does not hang in a way that makes playing difficult when standing.
Superb 'TP-4T' Preamp
brilliantly responsive 3-BAND EQ The GX18CE boasts Takamine’s own ‘TP-4T’ preamp, which sits perfectly on the body of the guitar, situated to allow for quick access when you need it, but also situated in a position not to get in the way whilst playing. The TP-4T preamp has an incredibly responsive 3-band EQ – each of which are adjusted by smooth sliders, a volume knob, an on-board tuner, all on one simple and intuitive control panel which encourages the player to plug in and make this guitar soar. A handy ‘Low Battery’ LED has been added too, a small but invaluable commodity when performing live.
A Beautifully Curvaceous Body
Curves to die for The GX18CE’s beautiful and curvaceous body is built from laminated mahogany alongside a solid spruce top, with a cutaway that not only looks superb, but allows for unhindered upper fret access. A beautiful black binding wraps around the GX18CE’s slender curves and a black and white rosette surrounds the sound hole. The finish on this guitar, as you’d be right to expect from Takamine, is sublime. The GX18CE has a wonderful voice and despite it’s ¾ size, projects amazingly well.
