Rated 3.2 out of 5 by 6 reviewers.
Rated 3 out of 5 by Great little device, but a little underperforming... The Cyclone Android X4 Quad Core~ does everything it's meant to do, but it doesn't do it that well. Netflix, seems to struggle, with regular flickering & picture stuttering, which we don't get on any other device. (We also have this on a wired internet connection, not wi-fi). The menu & search system is painfully slow, using the onscreen keyboard, although many of the alternative devices probably suffer from the same issue..? Cyclone do have a slightly more expensive version, with a faster x8 core, etc...buy that one! 14 April 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by A great little Android media player This is my second go at an Android media player and I'm pleased to say that it's is a far more capable device than my previous purchase. The XBMC media player is the big selling point here, it's pre-installed and runs straight out of the box. Iplayer required an update and installation of the BBC media player, but then ran fine, using the integrated Wifi to connect to my home network, but if you are playing media files across a network and wanting to run a lot of streaming services like Iplayer, Netflix etc, it's probably worth using a wired network connection. Also, while the little remote that's included is OK, you will make life a lot easier for yourself if you invest in a wireless keyboard, I have Logitech which works a treat. If you have a library of media files and want to use XBMC to organise them, then be aware that you will need to ensure that the files are organised and named correctly for XBMC to process them correctly. XBMC uses online services to collect artwork and synopses etc for TV and Films and this has all worked for me perfectly. Don't expect everything to be perfect out of the box though. XBMC requires a bit of tinkering with the settings to get everything running just so, I highly recommend looking up some of the getting started with XBMC guides online if you are new to the software. If you're not comfortable with messing around in the settings then you might find this box very frustrating and prefer a simpler media player. Also, there are still a couple of minor gremlins with XBMC on Android, for instance, I found that the box freezes when I attempt to fast forward beyond 2x some of my media files. I really am being picky here though, all in all the box works great, the XBMC media player is far more polished than the more basic media players I've used in the past and I'm really happy with it. Again, if you don't mind playing around with the settings for a few hours after you turn it on, then you will end up with a very compact and very capable media player that instantly converts any TV to a smart TV. 19 January 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good value media streamer I like this little box, for less than £50 I consider it a bargain. It streams 1080p movies from my nas over the network (wired) with no problems at all (I've not tried over wireless). It is powered via usb so if your tv has usb ports like mine does you can power it from the tv so it comes on/off along with the tv which is really handy. It does have firmware quirks - it seems to be stuck on Shanghai time. and I'm not really expecting any new firmware updates from sumvision. But this device can be rooted and there is a newer version of openelec with kodi which is reported to work well on it. The only problem I have with it is that it does not bitstream HD audio over HDMI to my Onkyo receiver. So it will downmix dts-ma to dts and Dolby TrueHD to DD5.1. Apparently there are no android devices which can do this so I should have done my research first. I was going to return the device because of this, but it's growing on me so I think I'll keep it. 17 January 2015
Rated 2 out of 5 Sadly cannot recommend I really wanted to like this product, it ticked all the boxes but i've returned one because it stuttered occasionally regardless of file type. (i'm using a 80Mbs ethernet connection). the replacement has the same stutter but also goes black screen momentarily every so often. It has decided to not power up from the remote so has to be physically unplugged and reconnected for it to boot. The software implementation is poor out of the box and takes a fair bit of fiddling with and still isn't right. On the plus side its well made and the rudimentary remote is actually not bad. Now i'm thinking do i take it back and go for third time lucky? Thankfully i'm within a reasonable distance of the shop (18 miles), at this rate we'll be on first name terms! 06 January 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by Not good having owned the previous micro 2 and micro 4 , I was looking forward to buying this, this product is bad. there is no RTC and every time power is removed (usb power from tv) it reverts back to a Chinese keyboard and the time in china. the copy of openelec is "hooky" and will not update. now then the "kitkat" apps , did I tell you that a media player that sits next to your TV has a dialler , phonebook and google navigation maps , and voice dial ? very low of processing power (raspberry pi is as quick) and froze frequently. the sd card slot broke the first time it was removed , the reset button (pin) is behind the usb port , so you cannot flash the bios, the supposed v1.1 bios is actually the v1 bios . sumvision need to change there supplier before they loose credibility I returned it , and was under the impression this was not there first return of this "new" product I ended up , adding an extra £50 and buying a intel nook , now THAT is a media player! 06 January 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fantastic Value! Just received my X4 today and wow for under £50 delivered its an absolute bargain, streaming 1080p no problem (i'm using lan rather than wifi), xbmc is preinstalled but not configured but that's easily done if you know how, running android 4.4.2 out the box, remote is pretty decent and works powered with supplied usb cable if you don't want to use the mains, got mine connected to tv usb which means its turned on and off with the tv, takes about 30-45 secs to boot up so not too bad, for the money its great! 06 December 2014
