Product Overview The PATA2SATA3 is a bi-directional SATA IDE adapter/converter that lets you connect a Serial ATA drive to a legacy IDE port, or an IDE drive to a SATA motherboard port.

A cost-effective solution for upgrading existing IDE systems to support SATA hard drives or optical drives, the SATA/IDE adapter eliminates the expense of having to purchase a controller card while saving the expansion slot that would be required for card installation.

In addition to SATA hard drive installation, the adapter can be reversed in order to connect older IDE drives to a newer SATA-enabled motherboard, making it easy to retrieve old files from a previous system. Features • Bi-Directional support for IDE-to-SATA or SATA-to-IDE communication
• Compatible with PATA (IDE) 100/133 MBps hard devices
• Compatible with SATA revision 1/2/3 (1.5/3.0/6.0 Gbps) devices
• Supports SATA/IDE ATAPI devices, such as CD/DVD optical drives
• Fully compliant with Serial ATA 1.0a specifications, with transfer rates up to 1.5 Gbps
• Compatible with Master/Slave/Cable Select modes for IDE devices
• No driver or software required

In computing terms, system buses are used to connect various components to the motherboard’s core logic and, often, to each other. Modern PCs run with a multitude of high-speed buses ranging from the interconnects between, say, the chipset and the CPU, graphics card, memory, and peripherals.

If you've used a computer for any duration of time you'll have come across the terms “kilobyte, megabyte, gigabyte” and so on. Then there's “kilobit, megabit and gigabit” to add a bit of confusion and to top it all off you've maybe heard or read terms like “gibibyte” on occasion.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Shame about the documentation The product is neat enough, but the accompanying documentation is sadly lacking. The instructions are printed in too small a font, requiring magnification for anyone without perfect sight, and the 'Master/Slave/Cable Select' switches diagram mentioned was not supplied. I have scanned and enlarged the instructions but I shall delay using it until I have time to experiment with the switches and create my own diagram. 24 August 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Does what it's supposed to. This is a good product. It's a little overpriced for what it does, but it does it well. Make sure the connectors are all firmly pushed in, though. I found some of them could be a little loose. The great thing is that if it's all connected corrected, the little LED comes on and it glows red! 09 August 2013
