Sony have built up from the FS5, bringing the FS5 Mark II with a new look, combining the lessons and tech that was acquired from Sony's VENICE cinematography camera. The Mark II provides rich mid-range colours, alluring facial tones and a softer tonal look, giving you a revitalised, fresh and vivid look to enhance your subjects that is still ready for every ounce of post production you're going to throw at it, that the Super 35 Exmor Sensor provides.
What the FS5 Mark II has over the rest is the slow-motion video it provides. Up to 240fps in 2K/Full HD and 120fps in 4K, this HDR footage is spectacular to view and comes with a choice of HLG or S-log2/3. The High Frame Rate recording is able to spit out continuous 240fps in 2K RAW when attached a third party external recorder like the Atomos Shogun, Sumo or Ninja V. You can pump the the FS5 Mark II to even high FPS values, like 480 and 960, but only at specific resolutions.
The Sony FS Mark II is designed around the sensor, the Exmor, a Super 35 4K sensor that gives you the amazing slow motion detailed above and extreme readout speeds to keep your head above the water when shooting in 4K. When shooting in HD, recordings come out at a step above the rest, with details and textures that regular HD sensors can't even begin to compare to.
Bokeh is also available, giving you defocussed backgrounds that utilise shallow depth of field, enhanced by brilliant low-light sensitivity and the sensor's expansive field of view.
The sensor allows for full, 4K 60 or 50fps in FS-RAW, when combined with an external recorder and records FullHD in 10-bit, 4:2:2 at 50Mbps internally.
With an a mount system, Sony offer an abundance of compatibility with both Sony and third-party lenses. The E-Mount can be adapted to fit cinema lenses and SLR, as well as take advantage of Sony's range of E and A mount system. This way, if you've already invested in a set of lenses in your kit, you don't have to rebuy new to get started with this camera.
During a fast moving shoot, where the time between capturing the moment and an environmental change, you need added support from the camera. This is where the FS5 II's electronic ND Filters come into play. They can be controlled from 1/4ND to 1/128ND in a granular fashion for that perfect look or, automatically, so you don't need to change filters as the world around you changes during a shoot.
Sony have ensured that the FS5 II is as flexible as you need it to be, with a modular design that includes a multi-interface shoe to provide power, connections and switching of compatible Sony accessories. It also supports dual SD cards that each have independent recording control, so when one SD card fills up, the camera will automatically switch over to the other to ensure you can keep going without having to worry about anything at all. Also on the camera is two XLR inputs, giving you easy access XLR connectors that you can still get to in a confined space, rig or on a gimbal. Features
