Quality Control!I bought this to replace an FP59 from the same manufacturer, but the card reader section failed after about 1 year, I've only given the FP56 4 stars as mine on examination before installation had 2 of the 19 pins on the USB 3 header misaligned & slightly bent (would have spelt disaster if I had just pushed the supplied lead into the unit without a thought) - with careful use of a small screwdriver and jewellers eyepiece I was able to straighten them - be aware any potential buyer its worth checking. You may ask why I have then given it 4 stars, well as a user of CF cards for Photography I like the deep throat (inlet) for these cards as many, many others are too shallow, I also use SDXC cards too for video use and these are a firm fit in this unit. I have had no problems with Silverstone products over the years, other than the ones mentioned above so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this unit last for a long time as normally I find this manufactures goods very reliable.

Third one and countingI have just installed the third of these, and I am a big enthusiast despite thinking that they are a bit on the expensive side. As another reviewer pointed out, they aren’t just black, they also come with silver and light cream replacement plastic fronts. One went in a machine where the motherboard already had sockets for USB 3.0, and the downside there was that the power is supplied via a Molex connection, which some power supplies no longer provide. The other two went in machines of an older generation that didn’t have USB 3.0 on the motherboard, and so needed to be paired with appropriate USB 3.0 PCI-E cards: in one build a Silverstone card with 2 internal connections (because the case had a USB 3.0 connection); and in the other, I used the Silverstone ECO4-E card with 2 ports at the back of the case and an internal port. In every build, the components were recognised immediately by Windows 10 and installed immediately without any bother.
The open space at the back of the device is provided with holes to mount 2 SSDs, and so removing the need for additional trays in an older case.
Power is needed mainly for the charger port, and the USB 3.0 connections are live without the Molex being connected, but obviously only for low power demand devices.
I have used 3.5” card reader devices that poke out of a floppy drive slot, but cases often don’t provide these nowadays. This device gives sufficient USB sockets as well as the card reader, and is muted in appearance.

Perfect for my needsThere are few combined USB3/card reader front bay devices around; this fitted my needs exactly. Quite expensive, (Scan was the best deal) reasonably well made, matches my Silverstone case, easy to install so quite happy with it.
Delivery from Scan was quick, item was well packed.

NIce fit and seems fastUses 1 internal USB3 cable for both the USB ports and the card reader, so requires a USB3 header. Cable should be long enough for most standard (mid)tower cases.
Card reader seems faster than my old USB2 external reader but as I at present do not have any higher speed memory cards I cannot compare read/write speeds.
Also requires a 4 pin molex power connector (for charging USB port) but seems to work without it.
For some reason on my PC after I fitted it the red light on the card reader remains on and so does the 'power on LED' on my case even when shut down? but otherwise works brilliantly. 3 colour front pieces (white/black/silver).
Goes really well with my Silverstone FT01 case.
