Firewire
Date Issued: 21st Oct 2008

You've probably read the USB Tekspek, and perhaps your intrigue, or product interest, has lead you to look up Firewire as well. The two are similar in some respects, particularly some of the products that use the two technologies. However, Firewire has its differences, which means it has both benefits and drawback when compared to USB. This Tekspek will look at Firewire and also look at it with respect to USB.

Rated 3 out of 5 by OK but hard work I fitted this to a GD04 case but it certainly wasn't easy. Extracted the old panel and the plastic bracket that holds it in. Turns out the new panel doesn't fit the old bracket (the old panel connections are vertical, whereas the new pass out of the back of the board, fouling on the bracket). Couldn't bend or force it into place, so had to modify the bracket to fit with a hacksaw. With some modifications done it fits and works ok. Probably fine in other cases, just not in a GD04!! 13 July 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Used for moding Excellent product, well built, although my use wasn't normal. I removed the USB3 ports on this small panel so that I could upgrade the USB2 ports on my HTPC to USB3. For that usage this is excellent. The ports are self contained and not using a soldered earth connector, meaning once removed they can be epoxyed in to the old case and no need for solder. 25 October 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by Fix the only flaw with the Silverstone FT02R-WRI I got this so that I can use the front panel USB 3.0 connectors on my motherboard and connect USB 3.0 devices to the front of my case without having to remove the back panel cover. I had also broken the mic jack on the old connector so buying this one fixed that too. The panel fits perfectly and I only had to un/re-screw 4 or so screws to replace it. 06 September 2013
