As a growing number of homes contain more than one computer, their users must find ways to network them. The primary purpose for creating a home network tends to be to provide Internet access to all computers within the house. There are other good reasons, however. These include enabling LAN gaming, data backups from one machine to another and the sharing of music within the home.

ScanFX WL-USB-NANO-150, USB 2.0, 150Mbps, 802.11n, Wireless Adaptor is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great sensitivity but causes long Windows shutdowns Works great as a wifi card. Picks up all the available networks unlike the TP-LINK Archer T1U which only shows a few. However, using the driver on the Dynamode website causes Windows 7 to take much longer to shutdown. This has been replicated on two completely different systems. Both have SSDs and shut down within seconds before this adaptor was installed. Now they take almost a minute. Disabling, or uninstalling this device makes the system quick to shutdown again.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Awful, fell apart (literally) and signal is rubbish I should have expected this as it is the cheapest adapter, but it is not worth the cost - it had terrible reception compared to my (also super cheap £250 acer) laptop in the same position. Also, quite hilariously, the second time I pulled it out of the USB socket it literally disintegrated. I did fix this with superglue and now it's pretty robust but I bought a homeplug in the end; this was only to tide me over and it might work as a backup but don't even think about downloading any files via this, the speed and connection is not fast or robust!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple set up and it works very well. I bought one of these to see if I could get an old Mac i-book (OSX10.4, G3 PPC) working on wireless without having to buy an expensive second hand airport card. I was pleased and surprised to find that such a cheap item came with a comprehensive install disk with drivers for all versions of Mac from OSX10.4 upwards (PPC and Intel). It really did plug and play. The software install was easy and it connected first time. I've used it for a couple of weeks now, it's stable, decent speed (considering such an old machine) and has very good range achieving 90% signal strength throughout our house. I have since bought another of these devices for my niece who has an old macbook pro, osx10.5 G4 ppc. This was similarly easy and straightforward to install and use. The one caveat, it can't really be deemed a complaint, is that the install disk is on a small sized cd. This was fine in the old G3 i-book, but could not be used in the slot loading G4 machine.
