Professionally Built PCs vs Self-Built

Anyone can build a PC, so what really makes the difference between any old PC and a 3XS PC? For starters, our team has been designing and building PCs for more than 20 years, so we have a huge amount of experience in building highly reliable systems that deliver the most performance for your budget. These are the benefits you receive when buying a professionally built 3XS system versus building a system yourself.

No Compatibility Headaches

It can take weeks to research the right combination of components, not just to ensure you get the most bang for your buck but to minimise the chance of one component being incompatible with another. Whether you buy a system from our configurator or a custom spec system our engineers will do all this hard work for you, ensuring that when your system is delivered it performs flawlessly.

Intensively Tested

Building a PC only takes a few hours, but installing all the software and making sure that everything is configured properly and that your software runs stably takes up a huge amount of time. By ordering a 3XS system our engineers take this painful process away, as all our systems undergo a strenuous Quality Control procedure which includes updating Windows, installing the latest drivers and motherboard BIOS. Overclocked systems receive an additional 24 hour burn-in test to ensure stability.

Peace of Mind

Unfortunately PC components do occasionally fail, and when this happens if you’ve built your PC yourself you’re on your own. However, with a professionally built Scan 3XS system you’re no longer alone. Our technical support team is available 7 days a week, from 9am to 10pm Mon - Fri, 10am to 6pm on Saturdays and 10am to 4pm on Sundays. Click here for more info on how to get technical support for your 3XS system.

If our support team is unable to fix your system remotely and it’s still under warranty we’ll either send out an engineer to visit your home or office or repair it or have it repaired in our state of the art factory in Lancashire.

A Work of Art

We don't just build PCs in our state-of-the-art factory, we craft them. For instance, we route and tidy all the cables around the sides of the case. This not only makes your PC look great and easier to upgrade in the future, but eases airflow through the case resulting in a cooler and quieter PC. In addition, we can customise your PC for you, not just the components inside but also its appearance, so if you fancy a PC in an unusual shape or colour we look forward to hearing from you.

Widely Acclaimed

Our 3XS PCs have won hundreds of awards in the press from publications such as Custom PC, Develop3D, Expert Reviews, HEXUS, PC Gamer and PC Pro. In addition 3XS has won Custom PC’s annual Dream PC competition every year it has run since 2007. You can read all our reviews here plus customer reviews on the configurator.

Rapid Delivery

Sometimes you just need a system right now. Maybe your existing system has kicked the bucket or you’ve found that your old workhorse can’t hope with the latest game or application you just bought. F-series systems are pre-built and tested in our factory, so can be collected same day or delivered next-day to your home or office.

Warranty & Technical Support

Another key difference is that all Scan Value Series PCs are covered by our 2 Year Warranty. This means that if your system develops a fault in its first year we will collect, repair and return it to you. In year 2 the warranty is Return to Base, so we cover parts and labour only. Questions & Answers

Extremely out of date PC person seeking advice.

I need to replace my current desktop which I built when XP first came out so at best guess about 8 or 9 years ago. At the time I knew a little bit about computers but it has been a while. I looked in PC world to get an idea what was out there but I'm a wary about buying from them as I've heard their products don't last as long as they could so I asked at work and someone recommended scans. Looking at your website this seems to be your basic prebuilt model but I would want a few alterations. Also in all honesty I'm unsure what sort of spec is needed these days. I thought the best thing would be for me to tell you what I'm after and hope you can give advice. I'm after a work horse of a computer that I will probably spend about 15 hrs a week on. The rest of the time I use my laptop which will also need replacing in the next year and will be what the majority of my budget is going on. The desktop will mainly be used for Microsoft office but I also want to get a good photo editing program at some point so it will need to be capable of dealing with that as well. I need a CD/DVD read/writer as I have a fair amount of stuff (particularly photos) on disc. I also would like either a partitioned hard drive to store data and programs separately or someone said now you can get 2 hard drives in one PC? Finally I want something that can be upgrade as time goes on. My old one lasted so long as it did because as I stuck in extra RAM, a graphics card and upgraded to windows 7. I also had to change the power supply and would like to be able to do similar repairs & upgrades with my next one as IT stuff seems to get outdated quickly. Your advice and a rough idea of cost would be most welcome. Thank you for your help with this. yours faithfully Sally Edler
