The Best Gaming PCs

With hundreds of components and thousands of possible combinations, choosing a new gaming PC can be a difficult process. This chart will help you by suggesting which NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics card and PC is right for you.

By experience we mean the quality of the graphics and the frame rate that you will experience. A fast frame rate is crucial as it means the on-screen action is smooth and seamless, while a slow frame rate means the on-screen action is jerky and irregular, making aiming weapons impossible. Also bear in mind what resolution gaming monitor you want to game on - a higher resolution monitor makes games look sharper and clearer - but requires a more powerful graphics card. The following table shows what quality settings and resolutions the most popular NVIDIA GeForce RTX graphics cards have been optimised for.

Graphics Card Best For Optimum Resolution
GTX 1650 High quality settings in all games 1920 x 1080 (Full HD)
6GB GTX 1060 High quality settings in all games 1920 x 1080 (Full HD)

WHY BUY BUILT?

Professionally Built PCs vs Self-Built

Anyone can build a PC, so what really makes the difference between any old PC and a 3XS PC? For starters, our team has been designing and building PCs for more than 20 years, so we have a huge amount of experience in building highly reliable systems that deliver the most performance for your budget. These are the benefits you receive when buying a professionally built 3XS system versus building a system yourself.

No Compatibility Headaches

It can take weeks to research the right combination of components, not just to ensure you get the most bang for your buck but to minimise the chance of one component being incompatible with another. Whether you buy a system from our configurator or a custom spec system our engineers will do all this hard work for you, ensuring that when your system is delivered it performs flawlessly.

Intensively Tested

Building a PC only takes a few hours, but installing all the software and making sure that everything is configured properly and that your software runs stably takes up a huge amount of time. By ordering a 3XS system our engineers take this painful process away, as all our systems undergo a strenuous Quality Control procedure which includes updating Windows, installing the latest drivers and motherboard BIOS. Overclocked systems receive an additional 24 hour burn-in test to ensure stability.

Peace of Mind

Unfortunately PC components do occasionally fail, and when this happens if you’ve built your PC yourself you’re on your own. However, with a professionally built Scan 3XS system you’re no longer alone. Our technical support team is available 7 days a week, from 9am to 10pm Mon - Fri, 10am to 6pm on Saturdays and 10am to 4pm on Sundays. Click here for more info on how to get technical support for your 3XS system.

If our support team is unable to fix your system remotely and it’s still under warranty we’ll either send out an engineer to visit your home or office or repair it or have it repaired in our state of the art factory in Lancashire.

A Work of Art

We don't just build PCs in our state-of-the-art factory, we craft them. For instance, we route and tidy all the cables around the sides of the case. This not only makes your PC look great and easier to upgrade in the future, but eases airflow through the case resulting in a cooler and quieter PC. In addition, we can customise your PC for you, not just the components inside but also its appearance, so if you fancy a PC in an unusual shape or colour we look forward to hearing from you.

Widely Acclaimed

Our 3XS PCs have won hundreds of awards in the press from publications such as Custom PC, Develop3D, Expert Reviews, HEXUS, PC Gamer and PC Pro. In addition 3XS has won Custom PC’s annual Dream PC competition every year it has run since 2007. You can read all our reviews here plus customer reviews on the configurator.

Rapid Delivery

Sometimes you just need a system right now. Maybe your existing system has kicked the bucket or you’ve found that your old workhorse can’t cope with the latest game or application you just bought. F-series systems are pre-built and tested in our factory, so can be collected same day or delivered next-day to your home or office.

Warranty & Technical Support

Another key difference is that all Scan Value Series PCs are covered by our 2 Year Warranty. This means that if your system develops a fault in its first year we will collect, repair and return it to you. In year 2 the warranty is Return to Base, so we cover parts and labour only. Click here for more info on how to get technical support for your 3XS system.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Burning Love I've had this system for just over a month and can say this is a fantastic PC. The i7 9700F and RTX 2070 super have handled everything I’ve thrown at it with no performance trouble at all - fully capable of playing games like Total War Warhammer 2, Witcher 3, Battlefield 5 on max settings, averaging 80-90+ FPS in 1440p. For less CPU intensive games, well over 100 FPS. Also, thanks to the SSD the PC starts up in seconds and it handles tasks in general so quickly it happens before you've had time to think about it. All in all, the PC does everything I expected and wanted it to do. The PC came via next day delivery and was very well packaged but when you’ve spent over £1400 it’s to be expected. There is however a major issue with this rig which is why I’ve given it 3 stars instead of 5. The i7 comes fitted with a stock Intel CPU cooler which simply isn't good enough for a rig this powerful. It's fine while the PC is idle or if you're browsing the web, but as soon as you start any game that's even remotely CPU intensive the CPU temperature rockets to 90*+. I tested this out with a few different games on different settings, using NZXT software to record the temperatures (1080p on ultra, high, medium @ Unlocked fps, 60fps, 30fps - NB: I didn't have a 1440p monitor at this point) and every time the CPU temp was hitting on average 88-94+* within seconds of a game starting up, and running that hot until the game is closed, when the temp fell down to 40-50*. It didn’t make a difference if the game was running for five minutes or two hours, results were the same. I know it's not the exhaust fan or outer case that's the issue because as soon as you close a game the temperatures drop as dramatically as they rise to a stable 40-50*. And I also know it’s not a matter of build quality because the temperatures were fine until you fired up a CPU intensive game. It took some light browsing online to find out that it’s widely known the stock intel coolers that are supplied with the current range of i7s are woefully inadequate and that’s why the PC was running so hot. To prevent the CPU from melting I ended up buying this cooler (https://www.scan.co.uk/products/noctua-nh-d15s-dual-radiator-quiet-cpu-cooler-for-intel-amd) since it was highly regarded, and after installing it the CPU temperatures have been normal across the board, not exceeding low 70*s when playing CPU intensive games for multiple hours. What I don’t understand is being in the business of building and selling computers, Scan must have known this would happen, so why not install a better CPU cooler for the sake of an additional £70-£100 on a £1400 product? Pretty poor. Also, in order to install the new CPU cooler I had to disconnect virtually every component of the PC as the fan mount is fixed to the underside of the motherboard. Given that I bought a pre-built system so I didn’t have to mess around with components this was not something I was comfortable with but it was simple enough. However, since disconnecting and reconnecting the motherboard I’ve been getting constant interference come through the speakers that wasn’t there before, it could be a grounding issue but I haven’t been able to solve it and I’m not confident enough to go poking about in the components. I accept this is most likely my fault rather the systems, but it wouldn’t exist if I hadn’t had to install a new cooler… TL:DR Pros: It’s brilliant, can play every game I’ve tried at max settings. Cons: You will need to buy and install a better CPU cooler if you want to play games on this rig.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not a good case for the components I ordered the pc and came a day late but very understandable due to corona virus. Set up pc graphic card dead on arrival. I phoned three times and they put the phone down on me on three occasions. Then finally got in contact with a very helpful technician who knew what he was doing. Arranged collection then one week later no contact from scan to tell me what’s is happening. I contacted scan to see if they have my pc for repair and why I have not heard anything and they apologised for the lack of updates and said and engineer will keep me updated. A week later no contact so messaged them again and the engineer said he had replaced the graphic card due to fault. The engineer said after tests he will contact me with updates to when I will receive the pc back. Two days later with no contact I had a knock on the door with DPD standing there with my pc out of the blue. Set up pc and the fact I have telling them the pc case with one exhaust fan does not seem enough cooling with a RTX 2070 super and i7 9700 I give them the benefits of the doubt. I brought a £500 LG 1440p Nano monitor to go with it and the pc reaches uncomfortable temperatures eg resident evil 3 graphic card over 80 degrees and cpu nearly 90 degrees on all cores. Did try world of Warcraft and the cpu was reaching very high temperatures to the point I can not play the game. The case is scans own design so cannot put anymore additional fans inside and there is no top space or side panel space or front for any additional cooling. I contacted them on the matter that I was not happy about the design of the case and with these temperatures the pc’s life span in my opinion would be shorter and I would like a refund, I have heard no response. In addition to the fan problem I did ask them in the process of repair to stick more fans inside and they put one in the front which is the only place you can makeshift one but has no effect due to a enclosed front panel with a small mesh strip down one side. On inspection of the motherboard there is no available pins for more fans. I have given up on the pc now and gone back to consoles as they are less hassle I have spent over £1400 for something I’m not going to use. I have ordered pc’s from scan before and they have been amazing It’s the lack of contact and lack of concern that troubles me and will never order from them again.

How many fans in this pc?

If there is 1 fan will the pc not overheat
Asked by: Adil2246
There's one CPU fan and one exhaust fan, and these take up the only two fan slots the motherboard has. The PC gets hot, see my review for more details.

All in one hydro cooler

Would one be able to fit an all in one hydro cpu cooler in this system? Or would a different case be required to fit the extra fan?
Asked by: Drizzy
Hi, Unfortunately due to size limitations, we would not recommend installing a hydro cooler into this chassis. If you would like me to sort a custom spec out for you, please email me directly at [email protected] Kind regards,
