Product Overview

Expandable Ultra-High Definition Studio Command Centre

Record with The Power of Thunderbolt
Thunderbolt is the interface set to take over the audio world. Take full advantage of this blisteringly fast connection alongside ADAT Optical I/O. The Quantum features up to 26 inputs and 32 outputs all with super low latency. We also have 24-bit, 192kHz recording and playback capability and recallable XMAX mic pres. You can also expand the system as your needs grow. It's a perfect choice for a variety of pro and semi-pro users.

High Speed - Low Latency

No-Frills Direct To DAW
Every design decision during the engineering phase of Quantum was made with one goal in mind: speed. With Thunderbolt 2 connectivity and no DSP the result is PreSonus's leanest, fastest and lowest latency interface to date.

Expandable When You Need More I/O

Up To 96 Inputs and Outputs
The Quantum comes with two combo mic/instrument inputs and six combo mic/line/instrument inputs, each has its own digitally-controlled XMAX preamp and global +48V phantom power. We also have two ¼" TRS main outputs, eight ¼" TRS aux outputs, and two independent headphone outs with dedicated volume controls. That's only the beginning. With ADAT Optical I/O and S/PDIF stereo digital I/O, you can have up to 18 digital inputs and outputs. If you ever find that you need even more I/O channels, you can stack up to four Quantum interfaces via Thunderbolt to create a beast of a system with up to 96 I/O. BNC word clock I/O ensures your Quantum and other digital audio devices operate in tight sync. And of course you get MIDI I/O, too.

Superior Converters - Superior Sound

Audiophile Grade Experience
The converters on the Quantum provide 120dB of dynamic range, have low jitter and recallable preamps and allow you to capture complex musical detail and harmonies smoothly and naturally. The XMAX preamps are Class A analogue pres which deliver high headroom, deep lows, sparkling highs and a rich, smooth overall sound. You'll hear every transient, breath and detail in your recordings.

The Command Centre of Your Studio

Fits Into Any Recording Environment
The Quantum is designed to be the central hub of your recording studio and offers two main outputs alongside eight auxiliary balanced line-level outs. We also have an on-board talkback mic which can be routed to any mix and you can listen to any mix from the two dedicated headphone amps. There is also Dim/Mute and Mono controls. With all this expandability, professional features, flexible software and ample I/O the Quantum will comfortably fit into any production or recording environment.

The OS is Windows 10 64bit and the DAW is Cubase 9.2. I work at 24/48 resolution with a 64 bit buffer. Once everything was set up and the Quantum was up and running Cubase reported that the input latency was 1.5msec and the output latency was 1.667msecs which was excellent. That was without switching off internet and the various other windows services that can increase latency. So great then. Also the Quantum drivers having been selected in Sound in the Control Panel allowed Youtube etc to pass through the Quantum to my monitors. However, and Presonus are quite open about this, the trade-off to achieve maximum latency reduction is that the device is effectively useless in any way on it's own, outside of W10 and your DAW. So if you are like me and like to look for new sounds, come up with new musical ideas and practice playing them on your various synthesizers with the PC off then you are potentially going to be disappointed if you don't have a mixer for example. I already had a Focusrite Clarett 8Pre which does have the stand-alone capability and with it connected to the PC through the other TB socket on the Quantum + Word Clock sync and spdif RCA i/o (ADAT i/o is another option) the problem was solved and I'm more than happy with the result. Just trying not to think about what it all cost me is all!
