Frequently Bought Together
Product Overview The BDR-XD05TB is one of the world's smallest and lightest BD/DVD/CD portable burners supporting BDXL. The ultra-compact USB 3.0 drive can read and write to all BDXL discs including BD-R triple-layer 100GB media, BD-R quad-layer 128GB media, and BD-RE triple layer 100GB media, as well as conventional Blu-ray discs (single-layer 25GB media and dual-layer 50GB media). The portable device, measuring only 5.2" (W) X 0.55" (H) X 5.2" (D) and weighing a mere 8.46 ounces, also has the ability to be powered directly via USB (no AC adaptor needed).

The BDR-XD05TB is bundled with CyberLink Media Suite 10, which includes PowerDVD™ 10, PowerDirector® 10, and Power2Go® 7. PowerDVD 10 delivers award winning playback software and will even upscale standard-definition content to high-definition quality. PowerDirector 10 allows you to import your home movies, edit them, and then author them to Blu-ray Disc or DVD, or upload them to social media sites. Power2Go 7 gives you the ability to burn your valuable files to Blu-ray (including triple and quad layer BDXL discs), DVD or CD media. With BDXL support, you can now back up your files with fewer discs than ever before, and since the drive is portable and USB bus powered, all of this can be done virtually anywhere.

The BDR-XD05TB can write up to 6x on BD-R and BD-R dual-layer (DL) media. One BD-R DL disc can hold the same amount of data as 10 DVDs (single-layer). The drive can write up to 4x on BD-R triple-layer (TL) and quad-layer (QL) media. One QL disc can hold the same amount of data as 27 DVDs (single-layer). The drive is also backward compatible to read and write to most DVD and CD recordable media. Click on the "Specifications" tab to see all supported media formats and the read and write/burn speeds achievable for each format.

The BDR-XD05TB also has unique features such as PowerRead™, Auto Quiet mode, and PureRead2+. PowerRead can provide smoother movie playback when a disc has fingerprints or minor surface scratches. Auto Quiet mode intelligently adjusts the disc rotation speed to reduce noise (useful while watching movies or listening to music), and PureRead automatically adjusts the drive parameters to minimize sound glitches during music playback. Auto Quiet mode and PureRead can be configured as well as enabled and disabled with the Pioneer BDR-XD05TB Drive Utility. The utility is available for download here.

Drive Features

Store more data
Up to 156% more data storage capacity than a 50GB Dual Layer Blu-ray Disc. The BDXL™ format supports BDXL Blu-ray media (including 128GB Quad Layer (QL) and 100GB Triple Layer (TL) Blu-ray Disc™).

Faster burning
6x writing on BD-R single-layer and dual-layer discs. 4x writing on BD-R triple-layer and quad layer discs.

An eco-friendly drive
• Smaller packaging - saves resources and fuel for transportation.
• Reduced power consumption on external USB drives which allows for eco-friendly USB bus-powered drives.

Smooth movie playback
Scratches, fingerprints and other abnormalities on the surface of a disc can sometimes cause Blu-ray and DVD movie playback to stop. When a PowerRead enabled drive is not able to read through obstructed areas of a disc, it will attempt to quickly move forward to the next available data point, resulting in smoother Blu-ray and DVD movie playback.

A smarter drive
Pioneer drives with Auto Quiet mode, monitor how they are being used and will adjust their speed automatically – high speed for data transfer, and low speed for music or movie playback.

A better music experience
Scratches and fingerprints on your CDs can cause them to skip. A drive normally makes a calculated guess at the unreadable data and attempts to correct this to match the original music. However this is not 100% accurate. PureRead, when enabled, makes the drive reread the obscured data to extract the original music as accurately as possible.

Wide blank media support
Pioneer strives to have best in class performance over a wide range of media – our drives achieve this for a large variety of BD and DVD media. Refer to the drive’s media support list for all supported media and the write speed that can be achieved.

Reviews
Pioneer 6x Slim Portable USB 3.0 Bus Powered BD/DVD/CD Writer Optical Disc Drive, Black, + CyberLink Software is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good device for use across different OS I bought this to use on my MacBook, Mac Mini and Windows 10 desktop. So far it has happily worked (reading disks) with all three with no issues or complaints about drivers. I've yet to try burning a disk as this is something I rarely do. I've not opened the CyberLink software either, so I can't comment on these aspects. Bought it based on the Wirecutter review and Scan was as usual the cheapest. It comes with a dual USB cable to provide enough power for some operations, so you may need a powered hub or 2 close together sockets in some situations!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Premium Product The Pioneer external disc drive is a very nice looking piece of kit that is well built and a good performer. The clamshell tray design (lid hinges up) is great for my situation and I much prefer it to the much more common slimline drive trays which I find a little flimsy at times. The USB3.0 functionality is only practical from a power perspective so you only need to the main USB plug connected, however I have both plugged into my desktop PC to keep it out of the way. So far I have used the drive with commercial DVD and Bluray discs. The drive has performed exceptionally well with no stutter in video or audio during playback. The disc noise can be a little obtrusive (I sit next to the drive [1m from the ear] with open-backed headphones) but should be minimal if you are a bit removed. Pioneer also provide a utility to manage this should you need to. I have had difficulty reading 1No. disc, but based on the other discs this is likely the disc itself. I have not used the drive to burn discs yet, but there are no indications that there will be problems when I do. Is the drive worth the £85 price tag? Probably not if you just want something to read and write discs occasionally, but if you want a nice looking product that can be left plugged in at times and would benefit from the much more sturdy hinged top, then I definitely recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality will out... This BD writer is very well made entirely of metal, and has the ability to write to the quad layer XL discs, although I have used dual layer only up to now. It is a USB 3.0 device, and bus powered, although you will need to connect to 2 USB ports. The one connection is power only , so I used a spare USB 2.0 port for this, the main connection going to USB 3.0. I must say that the cable supplied is very short. Okay for a laptop, useless for my desktop. Performance is excellent, meeting the specification easily. It is also easy to install, being basically PNP on Windows 10.. The software supplied is Cyberlink Power DVD 10, which is well outdated, and has to be patched from the website to even work! However, it then works well, so no need for more expense. The latest version of Nero also works fine with the drive, both read and write. Overall, a good buy, and worth the money. Quality will out.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good Small, lightweight, draws power from the USB so no power cables in the way and so far fast and reliable.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good Works so far withouth problems, but it will be tested hard soon anyway, however software is just a little bit useless in my opinion, Cyberlink Media Suite, will let you burn all kind data blurays but when it comes to authoring ask you to pay a little bit extra

Questions & Answers

Cable length

What's the length of the USB3 cable?
Asked by: Harbinger
From memory it's about 6- 8". It comfortably allows the unit to sit on top of my desktop tower and connect to the USB sockets along the top of the front face.

I am interested in buying this drive but my pc only has 2.0 usb inputs on it. The device is usb 3.0 will it work on PC any advice appreciated thanks

Asked by: Saints1
I've used it on a 13" Mac Book Pro and I THINK that is USB2 not USB3 and it read the disk without issues. Never tried to burn a disk with it, so can't comment on that aspect.
