Doesn't support SSD drive via USB3 portI've found a problem with this device when connecting external USB hard drives. I've connected a Crucial 1TB SSD drive to the USB 3 port via a USB3 caddy.
Copying files to the drive fails every time. After a few seconds, the drive gets disconnected and then, a few seconds later, reconnects. Obviously this stops the copy operation and corrupts the data.
The same drive, plugged directly into my MacBook Pro works flawlessly and has done for many months.
Looks like there are issues, at least with SSD drives, and this device.
I spoke to OWC support who were pretty useless and just told me to return the device.
I'm going to persevere a little yet, see if I can determine what might be causing this. But ultimately, with absolutely zero support, it looks like that might be my only option.
I'm able to plug in other USB 2 devices which transfer only low levels of data without problem. I'm also running Thunderbolt 3 monitor plugged into one of the USBC ports via an Apple adapter. This all seems to work OK.
I'm not impressed, so far.

Expensive, but great quality versatile hub for MacOS 10.12 upBought this from Scan UK a few days ago - immediate problem in that OWC supplied a very nice but useless right-angled EU adapter cable for the psu brick in the box. Scan very quickly sorted out their mistake by sending me the correct UK cable namely this one - https://www.scan.co.uk/products/2m-c5-to-3-pin-uk-plug-(mickey-mouse-clover-leaf)-suitable-for-some-laptop-psu-adaptors-monitor-powe by DPD next day (foc) so all sorted.
This latest-Thunderbolt 3 (twice as fast as previous TB2)- Hub oozes quality being heavy and made of sturdy aluminium with black plastic top and base with rubber feet. It is easily transportable but will not fit your average pocket! It comes with a psu power brick in the box -rated at 135W measuring 14 x 6 x 3cms with a fixed cable out of 1.5m in length and plugs in to the unit - the other end is detachable 3-pin to 3-pin clover-leaf connector as noted above and therefore can be interchangeable to be made longer). Note that currently the Space Gray model is slightly cheaper than the Silver.
There are 2xTB3 ports/ 5xUSB-C 3.1 ports (one supplies up to 1.5A for charging other devices such as iPads)/ MiniDisplayPort mini-connector/ Ethernet Gigabit/ SPDIF digital optical (output only) / Firewire800 (mini connector) /SD memory card slot /Headphone socket (3.5mm) with audio in/out for speakers/mic.
Incidentally, on the subject of headphones, if you are using gaming headphones such as Sennheiser 363D with Dolby 5.1 through USB you will discover Sennheiser has no drivers for MacOS, only for Windows. This causes the output volume of the MacBook to be too loud through USB. However, the problem is easily solved using the excellent Hajo's Headphone Enhancer which gives complete control over volume level on a Mac and surround sound as a bonus.
Back to the OWC - a major feature is that the psu supplied in the box with it will run all the ports at once AND have sufficient power to charge your connected MacBook laptop (2017 MacBook Pro 13 Retina in my case) through the single supplied (but short at 50cms) Thunderbolt 3 cable. It's therefore a very neat docking solution for a TB3-equipped 2017 MacBook (where one of the TB3 ports is also used as the charging port -i.e. no magsafe connector) needing only 1 cable into the laptop from the OWC dock for everything including charging and that consequently means that your Apple-supplied PSU and USB-C cable can be freed-up to use as a spare. Note: you cannot use the Apple PSU USB-C cable to connect the OWC dock to the MacBook - you MUST use the OWC-supplied (or equivalent) TB3 cable, otherwise a warning message pops up to say the cable is not suitable.
I am very pleased with this product so far and recommend it if you can afford it. Other similar TB3 hub products from Elgato and Belkin are priced about the same as this unit but subjectively OWC seem to have the edge here in my opinion.
