the best headphone amplifier of our timeSPL Phonitor XE headphone amplifier is a high-end headphone amplifier hand-made in Germany. It features Phonitor Matrix technology, Volume remote control, retro looking VU meters, premium DA converter and the superior VOLTAiR technology to make the Phonitor xe one of the best headphone amplifiers available today.
The Phonitor xe offers connections for a standard headphone with a stereo jack plug and for balanced-driven headphones using a 4-pol XLR jack. With enormous output power, every set of headphones can be driven effortlessly. Phonitor xe accepts almost all audio connections, balanced via XLR or unbalanced via RCA connectors. With the optional DAC, four additional digital sources can be added. From USB to the professional AES format, everything is accommodated for.
At A Glance
• Ideal for headphones with a jack plug and balanced headphones with a 4-pin XLR plug
• Crossfeed control for level and frequency adjustment of both left and right audio channels
• Laterality regulation for detailed balancing with Phonitor Matrix for listening without fatigue
• Angle control for determining the interaural time difference
• 2 VU meters for left and right audio channels
Effective & User-Friendly Control
Twice as niceIf you would rather avoid the headphone cable hanging from the front you may want switch to the connectors on the back of the Phonitor xe. The switch on the front selects between the front (F) and rear (R) outputs.
Volume RCThe 45mm Volume control can be remote controlled with any infrared remote control. It works together with the motorized Alps RK27 “Big Blue” potentiometer and features a red marker LED so the setting is visible even in darker rooms.
Source of joyWith an impressive option of up to six 6 stereo sources, these can be connected to the Phonitor xe via XLR, RCA, USB, Coax, Optical and AES/EBU.
Premium Analogue Components
The DAC768The renowned AKM AK4490 Velvet Sound™ premium DAC chip is used as the converter chip in the optional digital-to-analogue converter, as a result of its new architecture, it reproduces the finest sound details. Converting PCM audio with a resolution of 32 bits and a sampling rate of up to 768kHz, which is equal to 16 times CD resolution. Direct Stream Digital is also supported up to a resolution of DSD4 or DSD256.
The DLP120The analogue output of the DAC chip must be filtered by a low pass filter. Phonitor xe includes two. One for PCM audio and one for DSD audio, since different roll-off frequencies are required. And in contrast to all other DACs in the world, the low pass filters here are built using VOLTAiR technology, which provides a plus in dynamics and headroom.
Audio & Visual Supremacy
Classic aestheticTwo mechanical VU meters display the input levels for both left and right audio channels. With the VU switch you can optimize the display for different signal levels.
Finding the middlePhonitor xe has the uniquely and finely resolved laterality control, as a result the perfect center can be found easily. The mode switch allows you to choose between stereo or mono playback. To the right, the laterality control is switched on.
The RevolutionIn the headphone amplifier is the Phonitor Matrix, allowing you to listen to music through headphones as if you were listening through speakers. The tiring super stereo effect is now a thing of the past.
VOLTAiR TechnologySPL pitted Phonitor xe against the best audio measurement system and found that Audio Precision could not compete with VOLTAiR technology, giving you the best possible performance.
