Iconic British Amp Tones Await!
Keeley Electronics - El Rey Dorado
Classic British Tone / Two Gain Stages
If like so many guitarists out there, you’re a fan of the classic ‘Plexi’ tone, you’ll be ever so pleased to be introduced to Keeley’s ‘El Rey Dorado’, the go-to-box for so many guitarists the world over looking to nail that iconic sound.
It’s true that there are a lot of key factors when it comes to Plexi tone, which valves are installed, which cabinet is being used etc, but after spending only a brief amount of time with the El Rey Dorado, we can safely say that the El Rey Dorado hits the tone bullseye! Perhaps one of the reasons behind Keeley’s success with the El Rey Dorado, is that one of the main reference points when designing this pedal was Mr Keeley’s very own JTM 45/100 stack!
The El Rey Dorado manages to cover so much of the classic British tone be boasting two gain modes with the ‘Lo-Hi’ toggle switch. This switch hands the user full control over the compression and harmonics of the El Rey. ‘Lo’ mode is louder, has more ‘beef’ and has less harmonics to produce a more old-school tone. Switch over to ‘Hi’ for greater compression, more harmonics and a noticeably tighter, more defined tone. Killer old-school crunch on ‘Lo’, ripping lead tones on ‘Hi’. Simple! Just like it should be.
at a glance
• Low Power mode for classic crunch tones, with more headroom and girth
• High Power mode for modern lead tones, with more compression and definition
• Level control can go above unity for use as a boost pedal
• Powered by 9-volt battery or 9-volt power supply (both sold separately)
