Date Issued: 21st Oct 2008

You've probably read the USB Tekspek, and perhaps your intrigue, or product interest, has lead you to look up Firewire as well. The two are similar in some respects, particularly some of the products that use the two technologies. However, Firewire has its differences, which means it has both benefits and drawback when compared to USB. This Tekspek will look at Firewire and also look at it with respect to USB.

System Buses & Bandwidth

In computing terms, system buses are used to connect various components to the motherboard’s core logic and, often, to each other. Modern PCs run with a multitude of high-speed buses ranging from the interconnects between, say, the chipset and the CPU, graphics card, memory, and peripherals.

NZXT AC-IUSBH-M1 Internal USB Hub, Expands 5 USB 2.0 ports, 1x Molex, 3x USB Headers, 2x USB Ports, Braided Cables is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ideal USB extension Perfect for using inside the case with its magnetic base if you run out of slots on your motherboard or externally if you need more USB ports.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from USB 2.0 internal expansion Great for systems that require more than the standard onboard 1 or 2 usb 2.0 headers. This was the case for me and has been fantastic so far. I have great faith in nzxt and have had several of their products over the years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty much your go-to USB hub Quite a large form factor however, especially once you have your cables plugged in. mITX users make sure to check clearances!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good value for USB 2.0 extender. My Z390 Taichi only has 1 USB 2.0 9pin, so this was a simple great solution. It is a bit chunky so smaller cases perhaps might have a slight problem with cable management. Otherwise good product. The one i received did have a bent Molex pin I just bent it back in place, worked fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This thing works perfect. Works just like it says on the box, adds a few usb internal and external connectors in the easiest way possible. A life saver if you don't have many internal connections on the motherboard and need to add something like RAM cooling fans or the like.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Faulty Unit Scan technical staff failed to follow up my query regarding the functionality of the unit. I decided to go directly to NZXT who were excellent. They decided that I must have been issued with a faulty unit by Scan and are in the process of issuing a replacement.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact and handy My motherboard unfortunately only has one USB 2.0 motherboard header and since I needed four internal headers for my case USB ports, Corsair RM1000i, Corsair H115i, and Wifi-Bluetooth PCIe card I had to find some an expander. I tried one from a Chinese seller but it was quite messy, cable management wise, and was very exposed with no shielding of it's PCB inside my case. This NZXT expander worked well, and the only criticism I have is that NZXT included a Molex power connector to power this hub and I think in this day and age a SATA power connector would be more suitable. I just had to get one of those SATA to Molex connectors, and I was ready to go.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from When you need more USB2 ports When you have a pair of USB2 ports at the front of your case, a Corsair Link enabled Power Supply and a H100i v2 AIO CPU cooler but only one USB2 header you are screwed. The NZXT internal USB2 hub came to the rescue enabling me to have all of them connected to the USB2 header.

Questions & Answers

How safe and reliable is this hub

My motherboard only has one internal usb2 connection, and as I need at least one maybe two additional usb internal connections. I have read online that some people have had faulty ones that either don't work or have damaged the motherboards. Does the power feed have to be via molex as instructed or can it be via a sata to molex convertor. Thanks in advance for your reply.
Asked by: Anonymous
It appears well built and works a treat on my system. I used the molex option only because everything else is Sata so I had more than enough spare molex plugs.
