Android 6.0 Marshmallow Upgrades

Now on Tap
This new feature from Google anticipates what you need, the moment you need it. With a simple tap, you’ll be able to quickly find information related to what you are seeing on the screen, as well as inside an app.

Adoptable Storage
Expandable storage moves internal. MicroSD cards can now be integrated with main internal storage, auto managed by the system, cutting out the need to manage where apps and files are stored. This replaces SHIELD’s move to SD functionality.

Improved App Permissions
Permissions are now managed centrally, meaning you have more freedom to grant access as you wish.

App Standby
Battery life is a big factor when choosing a device. App Standby can improve it in a big way. App Standby will automatically put an app into a standby state based on when you last used it, pausing network access and sync; it ends once the tablet starts charging. You’ll also get improved Bluetooth Low Energy scanning power efficiency.

More Upgrades from NVIDIA

We’re adding a new camera app to SHIELD tablet K1, with a user interface inspired by Material Design. It brings improved burst photo functionality and adds new real-time HD image effects, accelerated by Tegra K1’s Kepler-based GPU.

User Interface Upgrades
Personalize Home and Lock screens with different wallpapers, including new NVIDIA wallpapers. You can launch Google Now voice commands from the lock screen. And you can personalize your Quick Settings menu, adding, removing or rearranging toggles.

NVIDIA SHIELD Tablet K1: The Ultimate Tablet For Gamers - 4K Streaming, Android Gaming, GeForce Now is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 34.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from great gaming tablet This is made for games. The tablet has all tablet functionalities, can be used as a tablet. However if you after a tablet, a normal tablet (not for gaming), I would recommend a different one, with bigger screen and a better resolution. If you after gaming, get Nvidia K1. All games run great, controller (extra £60) brings extra gaming experiance. Runs fantastic, smoothly, well built. Great sound, stereo speakers at front. On top of that lots of special Nvidia functionalities - streaming from home PC, streaming from Nvidia servers. Plug the tablet to TV and be amazed. The tablet has just got upgrade to Android 7 Nougat. Great service from Nvidia.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from after using it hardly for a month Very satisfied with this gadget after month of using it in different aspects such as browsing, chatting, watching movies etc... especially love Nvidia NOW. nice and fast device with almost no limits of using and gaming. Also do not forget about PLAY MARKET content! A bit plastic, but it's not a problem at all!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great tablet for the price. Unfortunately I had a problem with the screen but scan where good enough to process the return quickly enough. The tablet is a decent bit of kit and for the price nothing else comes close. Nvidia game stream worked well enough as did the grid although the small screen size, lack of a stand and having to use a game controller made it difficult to game on, I'd therefore strongly advise either getting a case stand or using this plugged into a large screen tv. If you like using a controller then great but a wireless mouse and keyboard worked a whole lot better for me when playing games from my pc library such as Deus ex and Titanfall, although maybe that's because i prefer a mouse and keyboard combo. Battery life is good, Audio is ok for a tablet: the usual but as always plug in some headphones or use your hifi to get a lot better sound.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Gamers Tablet This is the second tablet I brought, Realized they are in short supply so I brought another this time from Scan. Arrived in time and the price was excellent, same price I brought my tablet from Amazon. This tablet is very powerful. I've had no problems with it and the gaming speed is very fast. I use the Shield game pad with the tablet and its works great. GTA games are fast with no slow downs. Playing videos is cool especially with the dual speakers. No regrets buying this machine. I've yet to test Nvidia streaming from my main PC to the tablet but I'm sure that will work without any issues.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't consider it, just buy it. I had been considering replacing my old tablet for a while as it was showing its age. My list of requirements included games playing, watching movies, comic reading (yes, a bit if a geek) so it needed a decent size screen, good battery life and good storage options. I considered both 8 and 10-inch tablets, which included Google, Lenova, Samsung and Nvidia. They all had pro’s and con’s. I eventually decided on the Shield due to the price difference between this and the others under consideration. The next problem was getting hold of one. They were in very short supply and delivery dates continued to slip. When I spotted stick arriving at Scan, I immediately placed my order. This arrived promptly the next day. On starting the tablet up, I was prompted to update the android system and the Nvidia software on the tablet. After reading many reviews of this on line, I oppressed the ok button with trepidation. However, it all updated very smoothly with out a problem. The tablet fitted perfectly in the case that I bought and turned itself on and off with the opening of the case reducing the use of the fiddly on-off button. I was aware that the tablet only had 16GB of internal memory, which for my requirements was not sufficient. I purchased a 64GB U3 micro sd-card for this purpose with a transfer rate of up to 95 MB/s. I inserted this and configured it as internal memory. It worked like a dream and reported internal storage of 80 GB. Now I was ready to use it. Streaming games from my PC to my tablet worked well using both the Nvidia hub software and Moonlight game streaming software. I also tried casting the tablet onto my Samsung TV as well as connecting using HDMI via console mode. Both work ok with the HDMI cable being the better option, as there is less delay. There is something surreal about sitting downstairs on your settee and playing a game on your TV, which is actually running on your PC upstairs. The console mode also work wells for streaming films from the internet or your own media servers. One word of caution, do not panic at how long it takes to respond when starting console mode. The tablet is actually rebooting itself to cater for the connected devices resolution. It will respond. The battery drained quickly but this is primarily due to application and system settings. Once you get these sorted then the tablet loses little charge when not being used. I found that setting the tablet to turn WiFi on and off when the case was closed saved a lot. Turning off many apps notifications etc, which also help. When using the tablet, the battery will drain but in anticipation of this, I also purchased a portable charger, which prolongs the life of the tablet and my phone. Before purchasing, I had some reservations due to comments posted by others. After using the tablet over several months, I have none. Its performance is fantastic, the screen is very clear, and I am getting around 6-8 hours of battery life when being used. All in all, the tablet is great and along with the additions I purchased, works out a lot cheaper than the nearest rival. If you are thinking about buying one, stop and just buy it. I wish I had done so earlier.

Questions & Answers

USB splitting

Been looking at this tablet for a while but the problem is its solitary usb port. Is there such thing as a splitter that will allow me to run 2 usb devices at the same time?
Asked by: stimpy
Hello, We don't stock a splitter cable but there's no reason why you can't use a USB hub, unless the peripherals you're plugging in won't power up from a single USB port's power capabilities. Regards,

Why would this tablet benefit me when I have other tablets

I have a few tablets PCs, and I really don't use them much, how would it benefit me getting this??? I like to watch films current programmes etc,( Sky) so how can I watch/ stream these programmes in different rooms on my big TVs.???.?. I don't like wasting money and as I'm not getting optimal usage out of the tablets PCs I already own why do I need this?????

Nvidia K1 is for gamers. Do not bother if you are looking for an ordinary tablet. However you are a gamer, you will enjoy tons of Android games, most of them for free plus will experience a service, which may change gaming forever - streaming in high quality from Nvidia servers. Just plug the tablet to TV, choose a game and start playing - no download, no need for PC, do not worry about game graphics details (maxed out). This is extra £8 a month though. And if you feel like use K1 for playing, you need a Nvidia controller, which is £60.
