25 SL MkII USB MIDI Keyboard by Novation
High quality keys
When you first look at the SL MKII you might be taken aback by all those knobs and buttons but the real star of the show is the actual keyboard. 25 Velocity-sensitive, semi-weighted action keys all with assignable after-touch. It's a Fatar keybed designed in Italy and plays like an instrument not a computer accessory.
Whether you are in the studio or up on the stage you need to see what you are doing thankfully Novation have you covered. With backlit buttons and bright LED rings around the eight smooth encoders you will never get lost in your own performance again…unless you want to of course. You can now see how much you have left on a filter sweep or if you need to add more wet from that compressor plugin.
See it all on the big screen
Out in plain sight is the long 144-character LCD screen which shows you everything that you are controlling, including the name and value of entire rows of knobs, faders or buttons. Working on synth plugins means you can actually bend an ADSR envelope and see in real time what value changes you are making. The options are endless but you will never be confused as to what you are doing to your music.
Touch Sensitive Controls
Here at SCAN we like to think of ourselves as Audio geeks who know their stuff but unfortunately we are only human and sadly have many times under our breaths asked the dreaded question….."what does that knob do?". Novation have this sorted just touch any of the illuminated controls and BAM the SL MKII will show you what its controlling.
Working with Software
Automap is a piece of software that comes with all Novation controllers. Automap enables knobs, faders and buttons to instantly control plug-in instruments/FX, as well as your sequencer's mixer, transport controls and more…Open a plug-in instrument/FX, and you have instant access to all the plug-in parameters. This allows you to assign knobs, faders and buttons, by simply clicking on the software parameter, and touching the control! Automap works with Ableton Live, FL Studio, Cubase, Reason, Pro-Tools, Logic, Sonar.
All this power and you don't even need any power cables just plugin your USB cable and you are good to go.
Easily connect expression and sustain pedals, and any external MIDI instruments. SCAN was super excited to see 2 midi out ports on the SL MKII
Ableton Live Lite
The Software of choice for many of todays top producers. From using the game changing session view to build up an arrangement or bang out a live set to using the more traditional one page arrangement view. Ableton Live lite covers the spectrum in modern Digital music creation. Use the infamous Ableton Drum, Instrument, and Effect Racks to take your productions to a new level. Make sure to check out the incredible native studio effects including EQ, compression, reverb, delay, chorus, filter and more or simply use any of your own 3rd party VST and AU instruments and effects. Ableton Live lite is the perfect kick-start or taster for those who want to see what all the Ableton live fuss is about.
"An evolution rather than a revolution, this refresh to the core SL line reaffirms Novation's status as the controller kings."
"The SL MkII is a great keyboard and controller, but what makes it stand out from the crowd is the innovative Automap software, greatly simplifying the process of controlling any plug-ins and you DAW."
"This keyboard has got you covered on all fronts and truly involves the composer in an all encompassing musical experience. Well done Novation!"

You've probably read the USB Tekspek, and perhaps your intrigue, or product interest, has lead you to look up Firewire as well. The two are similar in some respects, particularly some of the products that use the two technologies. However, Firewire has its differences, which means it has both benefits and drawback when compared to USB. This Tekspek will look at Firewire and also look at it with respect to USB.

In computing terms, system buses are used to connect various components to the motherboard’s core logic and, often, to each other. Modern PCs run with a multitude of high-speed buses ranging from the interconnects between, say, the chipset and the CPU, graphics card, memory, and peripherals.
