As a growing number of homes contain more than one computer, their users must find ways to network them. The primary purpose for creating a home network tends to be to provide Internet access to all computers within the house. There are other good reasons, however. These include enabling LAN gaming, data backups from one machine to another and the sharing of music within the home.

Netgear N600 Wireless Dual Band Combo ADSL2/2+ Modem & Cable Broadband Router 4 Port Gbit Switch 2xUSB 2.0 Ports is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from An excellent modem/router for the undemanding user I have found the modem to be fast and the router has a good WiFi range. I mainly used wired connections to the router, using wifi only for streaming video to a TV. As such the 150/300 bandwidth per channel is adequate. For using multiple wifi devices simultaneously an 802.11ac router may be a better, though more expensive, option. The only issue I had was that the web-based router setup program did not work. However, Netgear's online technical support is excellent (free for 3 months) and in a matter of minutes the technician traced the problem to incompatibility of the setup program with Internet Explorer 11. Installing Google Chrome resolved the issue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product, tons of features. Absolutely fantastic, exactly what I wanted. I haven't got around to looking at all of the features because this router just has so many - in a good way, of course. The simultaneous dual-band is an amazing feature, it allows for people in our family to play online games smoothly whilst also allowing people to stream videos. Though, I must admit that the connection to online games isn't absolutely flawless as it would be without somebody streaming, but it's ten times better than having everyone connected to just the one frequency. Also, I feel as though I should warn anybody looking to purchase this router purely for the fact that it has dual-band. The 5GHz frequency more than likely won't work on older devices. A few devices in our household are over three years old and they cannot detect the 5GHz frequency, only the 2.4GHz. Also, if you happen to have a PS4, they cannot yet detect the 5GHz frequency either - though there could be an update in the future so that they can. Of course, that's at no fault of the router. Just a little warning. There are a lot of handy features in the administrator portal. For example, a lot of routers lack the functionality to do simple things such a port forwarding or they make it very difficult to find the port forwarding option. This router however, has two tabs; a 'basic' tab and an 'advanced' tab. In the advanced tab, there is a section dedicated to port forwarding/triggering which is very nice to have. I should also add that there are a ton of monitoring features so that you can monitor (and limit) how much bandwidth is being used, how many active connections are on your network and obviously there is a detailed client list. I would list every great feature that this router offers, but there would simply be too much to type. Overall, it's a great router and is extremely easy to setup. I would definitely recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Router Good value, lots of features. Took a while to work out how to set a static IP address for a specific device. Can't work out how to remove the stand from the router, I did read on the internet somewhere that it shouldn't be removed as it blocks up vents and causes it to heat up more.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Router After much dithering I decided to buy another router to replace an old netgear one. I was getting more compliants about the router hanging and issues with lovefilm and iplayer. Easy to set up - copied all the details from old router over by hand. Swapped it over and it all worked. I havent set up the guest SSID or the usb sharing yet but doesnt seem that hard to do.
