Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not worth buying for win 8.1 PCs This WiFi adapter does not have proper drivers for windows 8.1 and that results in very poor connection. I had to bring my router very close to the PC in order for it to maintain a stable connection which is ridicules as how can a WiFi adapter have I don’t know a worse WiFi antenna than a smart phone… or its only because of the drivers which for windows 8.1 are only beta and you have to search for them.

will this function fully on a win7 64bit machine, or does it need driver(s)?

It does need drivers but they are included with the adapter (on a DVD or CD) The downside is that this adapter only has drivers up to windows 8 so I had problems on windows 8.1 and I will probably have problems when I will upgrade to windows 10.
