Add Paul Cochrane’s Celebrated Boutique 'Timmy' Overdrive
to your Pedalboard!

legendary boutique overdrive
Guitarists spanning all genres, will unanimously agree that there’s no finer feeling than finding that holy-grail of guitar tone, however, where do you turn when you need to add a little more overdrive, without tainting your hard-earned tone? Step forth veteran pedal builder Paul Cochrane.
Paul was one step ahead when it came to this predicament and decided to build an overdrive that would add girth to your tone, whilst preserving the characteristics of the original signal – and just like that, the original ‘Timmy’ overdrive was created. The original Timmy was fairly-priced and soon found itself to be one of the most desired boutique pedals around. Nowadays, in 2020 the only place to get your hands on one of the originals is searching long and hard on various online marketplaces, often priced way above it’s original RRP.
Boost your signal and retain your Tone

3 unique clipping profilesFortunately, Mr Cochrane and the engineers at MXR’s custom shop have got together to bring the ‘Timmy’ to a new, wider audience.
Now you can add this infamous, highly sought after sound to your rig, designed to highlight the expressiveness of your guitar, whilst also giving you fantastic hands-on control over a multitude of tones and colours thanks to it’s 4 control knobs (Bass, Treble, Volume, and Gain).
Finally, the popular ‘Clip’ switch is present in MXR's version of the 'Timmy', featuring 3 unique clipping profiles to accommodate a whole range of playing styles. This feature makes the 'Timmy' one seriously versatile overdrive, and one that any guitarist would welcome on to their pedalboard.
Understanding & Controlling the MXR 'Timmy'
powerful tone shaping parametersAn important factor behind the Timmy’s popularity is arguably it’s tone controls. Upon first glance, you’ll notice ‘Bass’ and ‘Treble’ controls, nothing unusual you might think…however, these work counter-intuitively to how you may first presume, instead of boosting frequencies, these parameters only cut frequencies.
Furthermore, the treble control is placed before the drive circuitry and the bass is found after the drive. This allows the Timmy to mould your tone powerfully and with the utmost control, all without impairing your original signal. This is the true secret behind the magic of this pedal.

VolumeThis controls the overall output volume of the pedal.

BassAdjusting this parameter will cut low end frequencies from the pre-overdrive signal.

ClipUse the 'Clip' toggle switch to determine your preferred clipping style.
Left: - This position provides asymmetrical clipping with
moderate saturation and compression for a wide, dynamic range of sounds.
Middle: - This position provides symmetrical clipping with light saturation, high headroom, and high definition for a big sound.
Right: - This position provides symmetrical clipping with heavy saturation and low headroom.

GainAdjusting this parameter determines the intensity of the overdrive.

TrebleAdjusting this parameter will cut high end frequencies from post-overdrive signal
