I've been using Windows 7 for many years. When Windows 8 came out I hesitated to buy it because of negative reviews people gave (or more precisely about the change of Start button). After I've upgraded my pc I've decided to give Windows 8 a try. I bought 8.1 Pro edition because that was the latest one and I've been using it ever since.
After the installation if your computer connected to the internet it asks you to create Microsoft account or if you have it already it asks you to sign in. I don't know if you can skip this step but I preferred to have local account for my computer. You can change it later by going in the Settings tab in the Charms bar. Features like OneDrive requires you to have Windows to be connected with the Microsoft account.
After running Windows 8.1 for about a month now I've had no serious issues whatsoever. Boots twice as fast as Windows 7 and shuts down more quickly.
The start button has now been replaced by "Metro" style which expands to full screen with the tiles that shows weather and calendar. Pressing "Windows" button on your keyboard also directs you to Metro. The old start menu programs like My Computer (which is renamed to "This PC" in Windows 8) are accessible from the Metro too. On the second page (If you press on down arrow) it has a list of Apps and your programs in alphabetical order.
Windows 8 also includes new Charms tool bar which has new essential shortcuts that allow you to search, share or setup your pc. One good Charms tool is the Search feature where you can search for your programs or files.
The new feature of Windows 8 is built-in store (which I never used) which is directly accessible from the task bar where you can buy games and Apps. There are also some free Apps and games too that you can try at no extra cost too.
One of Windows 8 new features that I like is new simplified task manager and the new file copy window which stacks copy jobs rather creates new windows. if you click on "More details" it shows live progress meter with the current speed as well as remaining time / files as the copy progresses.
The most stand out feature of Windows 8 is the support for the touch screen displays. One Windows for all devices no mater how big or small! If you new to Windows 8 I recommend you to try it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by JFRANKLIN No problems so far!
One word of advice, if you dont like the windows 8 metro screen i suggest you install, for instance, Classic Shell
Installed onto a samsung 850 pro 256gb ssd and boot times are under 10 seconds to desktop which is a load more than my 6 year old previous desktop computer!
No BSOD's yet touch wood!
Currently awaiting windows 10 but would be happy staying on windows 8,1 now i have classic shell installed :)

Rated 4 out of 5 by inequalaccess Works better than expected
Was unsure about this OS due to the new "version" of the Start Menu, but seems to work well and indeed provides better performance on existing hardware.

DVD of Windows 8.1 worked as expected and was delivered promptly. Not the fault of Scan, but you do need to use Classic Shell (or similar) to use easily on a PC with keyboard.

It's the newest version on the market and had loads of new features.
Great product if you have an existing setup and you want to upgrade or your building a new system.
