Rated 4 out of 5 by BEGINNING TO LIKE 8.1 I WAS ON WINDOWS 7 AND TRIED TO MOVE UP TO 10 BUT KEPT CRASHING SO WENT BACK TO 8.1 - AND I AM BEGINNING TO REALLY LIKE IT - I AM PARTAILLY SIGHTED SO NOW HAV A TOUCH SCRAND I CAN RECOMMEND 8.1 IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS WITH SIGHT - VERY USER FRIENDLY - THE LOCK SCREEN IS A GREAT IDEA - 8.1 HAS PROVED SO FAR TO BE VERY SABLE - A GOOD BUY - 01 December 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great OS Having come from Vista/W7 this is a great OS. Everything is much faster. As it is right now I would recommend this OS over W10. 24 September 2015
Rated 4 out of 5 by Not such a bad OS I am mainly an open source user. However, this version of Windows is a lot better than many detractors would have you believe. Yes it has its quirks. But I found it quite intuitive to use and easy to install. I bought this OS to install on my wife's laptop. 24 June 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great with a little knowhow Installed as a second operating system alongside Windows 7. As long as you realise the error that Windows cannot be installed to this disk the selected disk...is a DVD firmware error and you do not have to reformat your destination drive, then all is good. There is a lot of misinformation on the net to this effect. Just first try to change the DVD drive option in BIOS. Otherwise product is cool. Not as bad as people make out 03 March 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by happy with it i had no issues installing it. what an improvement windows 8.1 is. i actually enjoy using it now compared to windows 8. 22 February 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Like a New PC I was not looking forward to upgrading from win7 after all the stories I read about win8. Win 8.1 turned out to be a fast simple install and I've had no issues running, Adobe CC or any other software. My 4 year old PC is running so well, it feels like a new one. I gave 5 stars for value but that is Scans value and not MS, I think they charge to much for their OS's and hold back those who can't afford it. 07 December 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by It's Windows Great deal from Scan, but not Microsoft's best OS. Fine if you are using a touch screen/tablet/phone, not quite so friendly if you aren't, even with the 8.1 update. If you want to have more of a feel of Win7 there are a couple of simple add-ons available. Classicshell (free) or Start8 ($5) will adapt the front end to the more familiar look of older OS. 20 November 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Works like a dream! Product arrived in a timely manner, with plenty of information about its delivery status. Product worked perfectly, while the interface is a jarring change from previous windows versions, startup is very quick coupled with an SSD. 10/10 would buy from again. 14 November 2014

Answer:
This is not an upgrade from 8 to 8.1 but a full install, so you just install it on the disk in the usual way. It's the fastest Windows install I've come across by a large margin, so it shouldn't take you long, especially on an SSD. A very easy install. The only problem I had was that the key is printed so small that I needed my glasses to read it!

Answer:
Hi Bebop,

There shouldn't be any problems. OEM discs are for building, repairing or upgrading computers.

If your hard drive is formatted for Windows, it's good to go.

The unique installation key code [COA] is on the inside blue wallet with the disc in it.

You can also use the OEM disc for any 8.1 [64 bit] re-installation or repair if you have it's original key code [COA sticker] on the computer case.

This key code is not transferrable between machines. Easy money for MS. Keep your COA safe!

Answer:
Windows 8.1 is a free update from windows 8.

This means if you had windows 8, you would update to 8.1 for free.

But

If you buy this version, its already windows 8.1 so you wont need to get the update off the Microsoft website.

Long story short, you do not need to buy windows 8 to use this product, it has it included.

Answer:
Yes you can, suggest you obtain a SSD drive as they are more robust and faster, replace the old one and install this using the DVD. You then have a new updated machine.
PS one thing to note is that the original machine needs to be 64bit compatible which this particular DVD, check the motherboard manufactures site for information. There are 32bit DVD versions available.

Answer:
Yes, you can. I bought a 250GB Samsung Evo Basic (from Scan) to use as a second disk drive in my computer so that I can boot into either Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 (W8). You just have to use the "Custom" option when installing W8 to make sure you choose which disk drive to install it on. The W8 installer will "see" that you have W7 on a different disk drive and configure the boot-loader appropriately.

On PCPP, the list of OSs doesn't say the "OEM" part, so I just added it to my list and subsequently bought it.
As you can tell by the fact I was using PCPP, I'm building my own PC.
Does this mean that the OEM edition won't work for me?

Thanks in advance.

OEM is fine to use to build a system with. Depending on the hard drive there may be other steps required to get it to install. I had installed this onto a hard drive which had Vista and I had to manually remove the partitions for it to accept the installation. Took about a minute to sort out.
