A Kit as Unique as Tré Cool Himself!

Born Frank Edwin Wright III, Green Day’s Tré Cool entered the world in 1972 in Frankfurt, Germany, to American parents. At just 12 years old, he adopted his now-iconic stage name when his neighbor, Larry Livermore, recruited him as the drummer for the punk band The Lookouts. In French, "Tré" means “very”—and as for "Cool," well, that speaks for itself.
In 1990, Cool was invited to fill in for Green Day’s original drummer, John Kiffmeyer, while Kiffmeyer focused on college. What started as a temporary gig quickly became permanent, though not without challenges—Green Day nearly broke up due to the transition. Ultimately, they pushed through, paving the way for meteoric success. A major supporter of Cool's career, his father even converted a Bookmobile into a touring rig to help transport the band. Soon after, the game-changing album Dookie launched them into international stardom, securing their place in music history.
Cool’s reputation as a daredevil was solidified in 1998 when, after winning an MTV Music Award, he scaled the Universal Studios globe—a stunt that remains legendary. His drumming accolades followed, with Drum Magazine naming him Best Punk Drummer in 2011, and by 2014, he was ranked the second-best punk drummer of all time.

Optimum Resonance & Tonality

1/16" Maple Outer PlyThe key to Legacy's classic tone begins with a cross-laminated American Poplar center ply to lend focus to the vibrant resonance of inner/outer Maple plies. This unique shell combination is further stabilized by a specially-rounded bearing edge with single-ply reinforcement rings.
'a decidedly modern twist'As Ludwig's flagship professional drum line, Legacy Maple is a decidedly modern twist on our vintage shell formula. This is shell design came to prominence in 1968 marking the second generation of the iconic Ludwig 3-Ply shell formula. It was a short-lived design lasting only until 1976 but captured on some of music's most iconic performances.
