Icy Dock MB975SP-B R1 FlexCage Tray-Less 5x3.5" in 3x5.25" SATA HDD Cage is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Does the job but feels fragile Drive on/off buttons are very fiddly and feel fragile. There is little movement in them and it is difficult to know if they are pressed in properly. Removing a drive is also tricky as the mechanism feels very weak and wobbly. If the drive is firmly seated it feels like the extraction mechanism will break before the drive lets go! That hasn't happened yet but it feels like it might every time. The best thing about this cage is the ability to change out the cheap fans for decent ones - it takes standard 80mm fans and I upgraded to a Noctua which is quieter and more powerful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good quality but not perfect. Out of the box this is an impressive piece of kit - enclosure is mainly of metal construction with a matt black finish and clearly labelled ports/connectors. In operation it's very quiet, even in max fan mode, and the blue LED activity lights look nice. Highest drive temp I've seen so far is 31c - mix of 7200, 5200 "Green" SATA and 10k Velociraptors in two of these enclosures so that can't be bad. The only issue is with the trayless design - the enclosure does not always perfectly align the hard disk SATA drive connector with the enclosures backplane connector - around half the time it engages but then sticks. You then have to manually 'encourage' the drive to fully locate - I've found that pressing on the lower part of the drive with the door still half open does the trick - but seriously, should this be necessary? I suppose this is the price you pay for not having a drive caddy and hence the drive density. Just be aware and don't force the door which is mostly plastic and feels quite wobbly & fragile to be honest. On the flip side, the eject mechanism feels solid and works flawlessly so far. Bottom line is that you'd have to spend a lot more to find something better.
