TekSpek Guides
Date Issued: 21st Oct 2008

You've probably read the USB Tekspek, and perhaps your intrigue, or product interest, has lead you to look up Firewire as well. The two are similar in some respects, particularly some of the products that use the two technologies. However, Firewire has its differences, which means it has both benefits and drawback when compared to USB. This Tekspek will look at Firewire and also look at it with respect to USB.

Icy Box IB-868 3.5" Multicard Reader USB 3.0 Hub with USB 5V 2.4A Charge Port is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Lots of features in a 3.5" package. The circuit board in mine looked like it was sagging a bit compared to the slots for the card, but only slightly. Icy box have mounted the Compact flash board upside down. It doesn't affect operation but just really bugs me when looking at the back of my CF card. The card reader is all USB3 and certainly works as fast as my card allows. I've seen between 60-100MB/s The USB charger socket works as advertised so does the usb3 port. I don't have spare usb2 or esata motherboard connectors so can only assume they will work OK if connected.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Does what it says on box This device fits easily & nicely into a spare 3.5 inch floppy drive bay in your PC case, it looks fine when fitted. Connection speeds seem fine on USB pen drives (USB2 & 3), memory cards read and write fine in the appropriate slots, not tested the eSATA yet as I don't have a suitable lead (not a standard SATA connection) The reason I have marked it down is, the USB sockets are all upside down and this means you cant see the indicators on pen drives as they always point down, not very good !
