Can it work without header connection?

I was thinking of mounting this externally so I have easier to use ports, can it function without the usb header connected to the motherboard? Thanks!

How long is the cable to external USB 3 for passthrough?

Asked by: Izzie
Late answer, but I just bought this. The cables are all around 40cm long by eye. Certainly long enough to reach across a full tower case for the internal header.
