Product Overview 360 video isn't going anywhere, anytime soon and GoPro are back with a new camera to take advantage of the spherical space. The GoPro MAX, a combination of the form factor similar to the GoPro HERO series, as well as bringing the technology base from the Fusion before it.

The difference with this and the Fusion or other 360 cameras, is that you get the opportunity to utilise the MAX as a more traditional GoPro camera, taking high quality images and then switching over to 360 photos in just a couple taps of the screen! The MAX even takes stunning 270-degree PowerPanos, that don't even need you to move the camera to take them!

All your 360 content has in-camera stitching, so you don't need the horsepower on the go to offload and edit in the GoPro App, helping you get that delicious trick online as fast as possible. With the six microphones dotted about the camera, you'll also get accurate audio regardless of which way the camera is pointing.

In the app, you'll be able to reframe your video to focus in on what you want people to see, rather than leaving it to fate and hoping for the best. These 360 videos will then become 2D, but they'll rotate to where you've dictated.

With the new Digital Lenses feature, you can frame the shot with Narrow, Linear, Wide and SuperView, so you can never miss the shot you want.

Horizon Levelling gives your video a cinematic look, regardless of what position you found yourself in. Combined with HyperSmooth, your video is silky smooth and stable, even if you're on rough terrain.

Also getting an update is TimeWarp, the GoPro HERO7's variation on timelapses, TimeWarp brings stabilised, moving timelapses that adjusts the look as you go about your business. When you come to editing in GoPro's app, you can tap to slow down the interesting moment and tap again to speed up.

It's time to get those diving videos you never thought you'd be able to accomplish. Combined with the HyperSmooth Video, as you leap into the abyss below, the MAX is waterproof up to 16ft (5m). If you drop it, the rugged casing around it will keep your camera protected through thick and thin.

GoPro know their audience. They know they don't have time to let go of what their hands are currently gripped onto to capture that crucial moment. That's why they've brought back Voice Control to the Hero8, with 14 phrases that can be shouted at the camera to start recording and now even turn the camera back on from sleep.

Reviews
GoPro Max 5.7K 360 Action Camera - HD Live Streaming, HyperSmooth, TimeWarp, Six Directional Mics is rated 2.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Expensive, feature-light Having never owned a GoPro of any kind, I was torn between this and Insta360's offerings (including the new One R). As GoPro is an established brand, I erred on the side of caution and went with this. Having had a DJI Osmo Pocket for a year now, which is brimming with features and is easy to use, sadly I am underwhelmed and disappointed with the Max. Pros: + Good physical design, rugged. + Video stitches fairly well. Cons: - 360 files are proprietary, you cannot use in 3rd party video editor straight away - not even GoPro Qwik! - Files must be bounced to mp4 using desktop app. If H.264, only does 4k. 5.2k only for CineForm, which makes filesizes 10x bigger! - Minimum ISO is so high that you will not get under 1/100s shutter speed, even in medium light. - Clear lens covers are pointless, and make video unusable. - Battery drains within couple of days if left in unit. - Screen has severe backlight bleed. - Bottom mount doesn't click into place, just flaps around, makes very fiddly to attach to anything. - Battery cover is a real pain to use - bad design, not easy to tell when it's closed. - At time of writing, surround mics not a feature. This is not designed for someone like me, wanting to make high quality video using reframed 360. It's purely made for Instagramming sporty types who need to make a quick and dirty video. The GoPro Max might be good enough for them, but not for me.
