Reviews
Fractal Design Define R6 Gunmetal, Mid Tower Computer Chassis, E-ATX/ATX/MicroATX/Mini-ITX, 3x 140mm Fans is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from An outstanding case... you get what you pay for! This is a serious case. First of all, if you're considering buying this case, weigh up what you need it for most. If you're just looking for excellent airflow then this case is great, no question, but it's probably far bigger than you need. I mean, this thing is huge. Not so much in length or height, it's just seriously wide and actually looks a little disproportionate. If you're looking for a case that will offer plenty of room for storage/water cooling paraphernalia, then this is the case to go for. It's well built with solid materials and welds with everything, even the removable brackets, treated to an excellent quality of finish. Not a rough finish or sharp angle in sight. This comes at a cost though... it's heavy. Very heavy. If you plan on moving this about (although why would you?) then maybe you'll want to avoid this monster. Another cost is the actual cost of the thing... It's pricey. But, as with most things in life, you get what you pay for. I've seen cases about £30 - 50 less than this with pretty much the same build quality and aesthetic appeal. But they do not come with the flexibility that the R6 sports. You can really tear out all the insides and leave yourself with a huge cavernous box if you wish. This helps reduce the weight! On the subject of airflow, this case has a major pro and a bit of a flaw. If you wish air to move in from the front and out the back then the intake (front) forces the air around a 90 degree bend with the case door closed. With it open, there is no problem but then the case turns into an awful looking vented box. However, if you are using the top of the case to vent your cooling then the slightly restricted airflow shouldn't be a problem at all (unless you've got a load of SATA drives in the way). The top vent, when exposed, does ruin the slick looks a bit, but my system has never come close to running hot with 'the lid off'. The vent grille is plastic but is finished similarly to the rest of the case - so it's really not that bad. There's plenty of excellent cable management and a potentially useful fan HUB - however, I didn't use it in the end because it can't report the fan status/give control to each individual fan - essential if you want complete control. You have to use the MB headers. Maybe there needs to be an upgrade to MB headers to give control to useful fan hubs like this as it would have helped a great deal with cable management - which this case potentially needs because of it's sheer size. I really did find myself having to re-route cables to overcome the dimensions - but this was all part of the fun of the build. I have an overclocked x299 system with a dual radiator for water cooling and a blower cooled GTX1080 yet the air coming out the top and back never really feel that hot. Even under sustained high load. The temperature sensors on the MB confirm this. I ran this system outside of the case while I waited for my back-order to be delivered and it actually ran hotter then it did when eventually in the case! Bottom line, this is a quality item but you do pay for it. I probably didn't need this case because, for my simple setup, it's unnecessarily large. Do I regret buying it? Not at all. The finish is unlike any other case I've seen and when the panels are all in place, it really does look awesome.
