Blackmagic Design- 'URSA Mini Pro G2'
It's time for a changeBlackmagic Design's URSA range of cameras have given new options to every kind of production workflow in the current multimedia landscape. From studio, cinema and broadcast, the URSA Mini Pro and Broadcast have come in like a storm, even becoming Netflix certified to be used in their original programming.
But this change. Needs aren't a static thing and they must be met. Enter the URSA Mini Pro 2 G2.
New Hardware Features
Inputs and OutputsCombining everything from the original URSA Mini Pro like the ergonomics, size and flexible usability, the G2 brings new features to the 4.6K camera. Things like a USB C port for recording straight to flash drives or SSDs. A new sensor that incorporates better HDR support and the G2 now captures at 300fps, for immense slow motion.
Use your old kitAlready invested in the URSA Mini Pro ecosystem? Don't worry, as this camera will support all your accessories that you've been using since.
ND Filters, Night Display
Adjust in the Light Bringing in the ND filters introduced in the URSA Broadcast model, these are attached to a knob on the front, which can switch at any time to adjust for lighting. They're 2, 4 and 6 stops, working with Blackmagic's Generation 4 Colour Science to improve the end result in DaVinci Resolve. These ND Filters also play well with shallower depth of field and specific levels of motion blur.
See in the Dark But, there isn't much of an issue with damage, as the URSA Mini Pro G2 is super tough and built with magnesium, giving it a sleek look that doesn't get in the way of functionality. The monitor on the side of the camera displaying time and all the information you'd need quickly is viewable in both daylight and at night.
Lenses and Media
Takes almost anything Blackmagic's aim to make their cameras as flexible as possible continues with the G2, bringing the interchangeable lens mounts (B4, PL, F and included EF) and it also continues into letting you use anything from CFast 2.0 cards, SD cards and USB C flash or disk drives.
Dual Slots With dual slots for each card, once you choose your media type (SD or CFast), you can hot swap them as they get full and move on to the next without having to stop recording!
With CFast 2.0 cards, you'll get access to the full 12-bit Blackmagic RAW recording and with SD UHS-II cards can support BRAW 5:1, 8:1 and 12:1 files, letting you go for a cheaper model of media without really skimping out on support for Blackmagic's own variation on the RAW file type.
More about BRAW
Up to 300FPS With new internals in place, the URSA Mini Pro G2 can record up to 300 frames-a-second in Full HD, or shoot 4.6K (yes, the full resolution!) at 120fps or a windowed DCI 4K mode for 150fps.
Bluetooth Control, XLR, Phantom Power
There's always an option Open Source Bluetooth controls are also available, which can be built up from the sample code for the iPad. This will allow for the API to be used on almost any device and features could theoretically be added as the community begins to rally behind it. Built-In Microphone The built in microphone will produce high quality audio in a pinch, but there's also XLR inputs with 48V of phantom power to take on your professional audio solutions. Phantom Power On the back is a 4-pin XLR Port for an alternate type of power to the camera, but the G2, like other URSA models, also takes external power via batteries.
Free with the G2 All Blackmagic Design cameras come with their legendary DaVinci Resolve Studio video editing software and the G2 is no different. With direct support for Blackmagic RAW, an innovative method of editing special effects (which comes built into the software so you don't have to move between) and enhanced colouring technology backing it, there's a reason we love Resolve Studio.
