Intel 4th Generation Extreme CPUs
Date Issued: 29th Aug 2014
New processors usually grab all the release limelight, relegating the supporting core logic and memory to mere footnotes. This time, a brand-new chipset and DDR4 memory are equal partners in the platform.
Intel's X99 is a long-overdue platform upgrade for the high-end consumer market. Despite delivering an incremental CPU upgrade from Sandy Bridge-E to Ivy Bridge-E, Intel determined the supporting X79 motherboard needed no such upgrade.
EVGA X99 Micro V2, Intel X99, S 2011-3, DDR4, SATA3 6Gbps, M.2 (PCIe/SATA), 3-Way SLi, Intel LAN, USB 3.1 C, Micro ATX is rated

Great board if you don't need SLIGreat quality components and stunning looks make this a great value X99 board if you can live with a few shortcomings. BIOS and manual are well short of other manufacturers' standards and EVGA really should have included right angle adaptor for front panel USB connection. Other than that EVGA have produced a great quality board with a great features.

Not bad, just a few issuesThis is probably the most feature-rich mATX X99 motherboard there is and it does a lot of things right. The BIOS is easy to navigate and overclocking is as breezy as my temps. I know there's no such thing as too many SATA ports but you're probably not going to use all 10 of them on this motherboard in an mATX build, but it's really nice to have. The right angle fan headers/pins and SATA ports also help with clutter and cable management
The lighting on the motherboard, albeit quite subtle, gives off a very premium and almost futuristic feel, but if you're not a fan of it then you can enable "dark mode" in the BIOS which gives you a complete blacked out motherboard- great for any build style/colour/config you may have.
However, there are still a few issues;
Using the M.2 PCIe SSD slot with an i7 5820K means you can't use the bottom PCIe slot (even if you have the PCI lanes available for it) I'm unsure if the problem persists with the 5930K or 5960X but I would hope not.
Another issue is that M.2 support is still a bit buggy, they've updated the BIOS with a fix that stopped some drives from booting (last year actually) but this means you can not change the BCLK from the default 100MHz or RAM above 2800MHz, something enthusiast overclockers would miss.
Regardless, I would definitely recommend this board over the competition for the incredible build quality and spec for a micro ATX build. I bought this on day of release and I've been using it in my workstation for just under a year, I wouldn't haven't it any other way, unless of course EVGA comes out with a version 3 of it.
