DJI Ronin-SC: Lighter, Faster
Sometimes you need to go smallerIn 2018, DJI launched the Ronin-S, a smaller and more compact version of their hugely successful Ronin range of gimbal stabilisation systems. Able to be operated without a frame and still hold up to 8-pounds of pure camera weight, its unique functions (360-spin control for instance) and small size let it produce some truly brilliant pieces of work.
While the Ronin-S was smaller, it still was fairly weighty and some content creators couldn’t fit that into their smaller workflow, especially if it required traversing landscapes alone. Also, the level of cameras that they would be using, didn’t really require that much gimbal.
Introducing...So, with the stage set, DJI have now announced the Ronin-SC, a smaller counterpart to the larger Ronin-S.
In the Standard PackageThe Ronin-SC Standard Package comes with the gimbal, BG18 Battery Grip, charge cable, support, screws & wrench, MCC Multi and USB-Type C, MCC Connector Type-C to Micro USB, Camera Riser, Phone Holder and tripod mount. For more accessories, see the Pro Combo.
Lightweight, Long Lasting
3-axis, endless creativity Redesigned to be as lightweight as possible, while still supporting a wide range of major mirrorless cameras, this 3-axis single handed gimbal is perfect for those out on the go and content creators who want everything to have that professional feel, even if it’s just a vlog.
Perfect for long shoots If you’re someone who loves to take landscape shots or timelapses, you’ll have no trouble of taking advantage of the Ronin-SC’s 11 hour battery life and tough outer casing. Made of Magnesium and aluminium, plus some composite materials, the Ronin-SC is built to be taken about. To pack it up, the SC can be split into parts for easy carrying about.
Supported Cameras and Weight
Made for the everyday shooter As the Ronin-S can do up to 3.6kg, the Ronin-SC is designed for mirrorless cameras like Panasonic’s GH5, S1 or Fujifilm’s X-T3, with a max payload of 2.0kg.
Whatever you need Made for all situations, the Ronin-SC comes with multiple modes and features to suit your needs. Sports Mode heightens the axis sensitivity for fast paced shots, while the various shooting modes allow your camera to do far more than originally intended.
Timelapse Set the camera and Ronin-SC into their respective timelapse modes to get brilliant, stable shots every time.
Motionlapse Have the Ronin-SC move during the timelapse for a great looking addition to your shoot.
Panorama Finally get a smooth, wide shot without any hand shaking or hardware getting in the way.
Motion Control The Ronin-SC will store a movement path for you to repeat the motion every time you need it.
ActiveTrack 3.0, Force Mobile
Follow your subject Improving on the ActiveTrack technology featured in DJI’s drones and other gimbals, ActiveTrack 3.0 adds smoothness and precision to your shots via your smartphone. Included in the box is a phone mount that attaches to the top of your camera, giving you quick and easy access to the Ronin-SC’s app. With a simple drag over the target you want to follow, you can have the gimbal do the heavy lifting for you, while you focus on getting that perfect moment captured just right.
Remote Control New to the Ronin-SC is Force Mobile, a motion controlled portion of the app that allows anyone on the shoot with you to control the gimbal via low-latency tilts or rotations of the phone. So while you physically move, someone else can ensure the shot looks just right at all times in case you can’t keep all your fingers in the pies at once.
Axis Innovators Along with the modular design for easy travel, DJI’s innovations introduced in the Ronin range previously still show up here. The Roll Axis Arm doesn’t obstruct your camera’s display and from the Ronin-S, the 360 motion of an unlimited Yaw Axis lets you get truly incredible shots that other gimbals just can’t hope to achieve.
Button Layout If you use the Ronin-S, the gimbal’s buttons will feel familiar here. A trigger allows you to recentre with a double-tap and hold it down to change position. The joystick gives manual control over the Axis, with the camera control button sitting underneath. The M-Button gives you access to different presets, like Sport Mode and the detachable battery handle has a button on it to illuminate how much battery there is left if you’re not using the app.
Quick Release Each axis locks to get it back into storage quicker and the included Quick-Release Plate includes a positioning block to memorise the position your camera was in before disassembly.
