Creative Sound Blaster Z Performance Gaming/Audio PCI-E Sound Card 5.1 Channel OEM is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from 10 times better then onboard Coming from an onboard solution feels ten times better. And I have an Asus ROG Maximus VIII with supposedly a good SupremeFX "chip". To be honest not even comparable, especially if you have a good high impedance headset (card has a little, decent headphone amp). The sound is clean and crisp, the virtual surround makes wonders in games (just put it on headphones in the control panel, 5.1 in windows settings and surround sound in any of your games, the card will do the rest by itself). Don't forget to switch off the onboard in your BIOS. Sound has plenty enough of bass and treble (to my gamer's ear at least) and additional features work well (Crystalizer, Dialogue Plus and especially Smart Volume, which I was missing since my old PCI X-FI). Also, saving some CPU cycles, the card gonna increase fps in games, be it just a few, but still. Easy to set up, and the Creative drivers are nice and easy to install (Win 10). I liked the Creative control panel, clean and simple, but gives you all the options. Although, you don't get 2 red LEDs, plastic cover and gold Nichicon caps, it works without any problems. Installed it into a PCIe slot between GFX card and Power supply, no electrical interference, clicks or other noise artifacts, just pure, clean sound. The OEM is 30-40£ cheaper than the retail. However, it is basically the same good old Sound blaster Z, but without all those bells and whistles.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice card Bought this card to replace a Sound blaster Zx card which had become faulty. This version was slightly cheaper than the original version I had. The differences were that it didn't have a red cover and the annoying red LED lights and the separate volume control/microphone. When I say annoying red LED lights it was annoying to me because my rig has a blue theme. There were some differences in the software with some of the functions I previously had with the full retail version of the Zx card not available. But overall a good slightly cheaper replacement. The other good thing was I could connect up my separate Volume/microphone control from my old card set up as this was not faulty and worked fine with the new card.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great little card Does exactly what it says on the tin. I bought it so I could have speakers and headphones plugged in at the same time. For ref with a pair of Sennheiser HD 598's, volume is LOUD at 25% - decent little amp.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Terrific product Dear reader, Scan have some of the best customer service there has to offer. Their product came as expected and was installed. It works fantastically even considering the fact that I have had to change/swap headsets and microphone vigorously on a daily basis. Read your manuals. Regards, Me.

Questions & Answers

Can i use a Creative Sound Blaster Z Performance Gaming/Audio PCI-E Sound Card 5.1 Channel in the spare x16 PCIe slot.

I have a Asus Z87k motherboard and the graphics card covers the PCIe x1 slot.
Asked by: Starstruck
Hey mate. Yes they do. PCIe is backward/forward compatible with all versions. An x1 and x4 cards can be put into an x16 slots, just don't fiddle it much, so it stays aligned with the according PCIe lanes. Although, it can sometimes interfere with the first x16 slot, e.g. if you have a gfx card in the 1st x16, putting something in the 2nd x16 can force the 1st one to work at 8x speed. By the way there are different extension and raiser cards/cables on sale, can try one of those.
