Intel’s been on a mission of late. That mission revolves around grouping and standardising key technologies under various banners that are designed to ensure hardware compatibility and consumer ease of use. We’ll take a closer look at three such technologies that fall under the headings of Centrino, Viiv, and vPro, respectively.

The modern PC is potentially a mass of heat output and heat production hot spots. With CPUs rated at more than 100W of heat output, single graphics boards carrying similar ratings (and people want to run two!), multiple hard drives the norm, lots of memory and mainboards covered in heatpipes to combat toasty core logic and PWM circuits, a PC appreciably warming up a room when it’s working hard is no joke.

Cooler Master Hyper H412R Compact Single Tower CPU Cooler, 4 Heatpipes, 92mm PWM Fan, Al/Cu, Intel/AMD, 2066/1151/AM4 is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent cooler (but instructions were confusing) Bought this for my old PC. Recently upgraded from my old 4th gen i5, to a 4th gen i7 4790. So i thought why not give it some decent cooling while i was upgrading the CPU? (Got to be better than the stock cooler right?) It is SO good! I can't speak for overclockers, but at stock speeds. This guy keeps the cpu between 60-66 degrees under load. On top of that, it runs near silent while doing it. Beats stock cooler hands down! Gives you so much performance for so little. Guys, you can't go wrong with this. My ONLY gripe is the instructions for installing the cooler. MY GOD they need to improve it! I'm all for using diagrams rather than descriptions to help the user understand the install process. But when the diagrams are useless in helping you understand which piece(s) are needed, or where they fit - you may as well not look at it. Installation is where i feel users will struggle. Luckily for me, i did work it out in the end, but certainly took longer that it should due to the poor quality instructions. Word of warning, if you are upgrading to this cooler (for intel 4th gen), be prepared to take out the whole motherboard if your PC case does not allow installation access to the back of motherboard cpu backplate. If you are like me upgrading in a old case, you won't have access and have to take the whole board out.

Is this cooler compatible with an Asus P5Q Deluxe motherboard?

I have an old Asus P5Q Deluxe (socket 775) motherboard. The copper heat pipes on this board have made finding a suitable cooler difficult as they limit clearance for the cooler. Do you know if this might be compatible? Thanks.
Asked by: DonFranco
I can confirm the cooler works with this MB. Installation requires the fitting of a new backplate, so a complete removal of the MB, which is a little time consuming but a good opportunity to clean. Cooling performance is excellent, and the cooler is almost silent. Excellent value for money.
