What’s the most important part of your PC system? Its processor? The mainboard? Maybe the power supply? You’d only have a case if you thought it’s the PSU. That cornerstone of a PC system is the most important part of the PC system as concerns what’s in the chassis, which might surprise you, but it’s definitely the devices you use to interact with a PC which are absolutely top dog.

The array of joysticks on offer is massive with price varying almost as much as the styles of sticks themselves. The trick is buying a stick suited to your needs and not something that either doesn’t do what you need or has extras that you’ll never use. The reason there are so many sticks on the market is because they each fulfill a particular niche… so let’s take a stroll through the joystick forest and sort out the slender silver birches from the mighty oaks….

CH Pro Throttle USB with Three axis and 24 buttons upto 176 functions for PC/MAC is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from It's outdated, lacks damping I have the CH Pro Combat Stick, together with the throttle quadrant these two periferals work well. That said, the throttle relies on assignable buttons than the throttle axis itself which is an undampend slider. The design needs a serious update to compete with Virpil's T50 Mongoos, which is much more expensive but worth the extra investment. Unfortunately the CH Pro pedals appear to be plastic and noisy, so I invested in VKB T-Rudder Mk IV. For too long have gamers had to settle for inferior workmanship. Look further than Thrustmaster and Saitek, invest wisely, watch product reviews on YouTube, it will repay you with a more immersive experience gamewise.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent ergonomics and performance - plus completely hassle-free! I'm using this exclusively for Elite Dangerous, so can't comment on how effective it is for anything else. For Elite, though, it's sublime. I am using it in conjunction with a Thrustmaster T16000m, and actually it REPLACES a T16000m as I bought a second and was using a dual-stick set-up. First, the good points. The throttle movement is very smooth with no snags and just the right amount of resistance. Combat feels fantastic - more immersive and, with practice, this throttle will definitely help your effectiveness in battle. The next massive bonus is the additional buttons. How they managed to cram so many into a design that makes it easy to remember where everything is - whilst keeping them all within easy reach - is a minor miracle. I have Boost, FSD and FA-OFF (toggle) behind the throttle and they are all very easy to operate in a pinch. I have the 8-way stick mapped to my PIP management, and mini-stick for headlook, the upper d-pad for sub-target (Power Plant!) selection (left and right) and fire-group switching (up and down) and the lower one for landing gear (down) and chaff (up). Finally the 4-way on the back is used for SCB (up), headlook toggle (down) and heatsinks (left and right). This frees up my T16000m greatly and gives me immediate access to virtually everything I need. Overally I do recommend this throttle, partly because the CH reputation for build quality is so good (I fully expect this to last until I'm bored of games altogether!) and partly because it just does a great job. As mentioned the ergonomics are perfect (at least for me) and I also love that it just works out of the box. I'm running Windows 10 and it's so refreshing to be able to plug a peripheral in without it requiring any special software etc. In terms of negatives I do feel it's a little bit flimsy (although I've been assured this is actually by design and while it feels like cheap plastic it actually isn't!) and also a tad over-priced. I think around £80 or so would be about right. Also I wish I had a way of telling where 75% throttle was, as I still use a keybind for this for docking etc. Ultimately you have many choices when it comes to these peripherals. I would say this in combination with a T16000m is about as good as you can get unless you want to stump up the additional cash for a Warthog. And even then, you need to ensure that your desk can cope with that. Compared to the X52 range I feel this offers better ergonomics and durability (Google for throttle problems with those set-ups) at the cost of style. Finally, I want to add a quick comment regarding SCAN. I ordered this product late on a Friday afternoon and it arrived on my doorstep 10am Saturday morning. This is typical of the superb service they offer and I'll continue to shop with them as I find the combination of price, customer service and delivery speed to be unmatched.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So many buttons Had a X52 Pro but the twist spring snapped so bought a Fighter Stick to replace the Joystick and was so impressed with it I decided to get this to replace the X52 throttle. Throttle is smooth and took little time to adjust to the flat horizontal movement compared to the arc I had been used to. I have way more buttons than I know what to do with now so for games like ED and Star Citizen this comes in very useful. Currently using the analogue stick for roll, but plan on getting pedals so that will change to vertical and lateral thrusters. Looks basic but works great and has all the functionality I needed.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from More buttons than I know what to do with This unit is worth it for the mini joystick alone. 3 Changeable profiles on the fly, multiple hats/buttons, an analogue stick and great build quality. My only issues are the programmable button's software, which takes a bit of learning, and the feet on the bottom of the unit are slightly uneven, meaning it wobbles which I had to correct with some sticky rubber feet.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good functionality but needs some breaking in First lets get the bad out of the way, this is an expensive throttle when you consider that it is a plastic unit. It's also very light which can be a problem for some users especially as the throttle axis does seem a little sticky at the beginning as well. Pro's once loosened up the action is very good it also has a beautifully smooth thumb stick and excellent functionality. Overall I would recommend this product, however it doesn't seem to me to be as good as the fighterstick that accompany's it. Maybe next time I would save a bit more and get a warthog

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent product As with my other review again this product is great. works perfectly after setup correctly. Would recommend before setting up, using CH hanger forum, very helpful place, very active community playing all the latest games. Gave 4/5 value as with my other reviews, as I feel CH should offer a bundle that's slightly cheaper than buying all three separately (stick, peddles, throttle). All products can be used alone though of course.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highy recomended Just the right number of hats which are well positioned and comfortable to use. Plastic but feels solid enough and has a smooth sliding action. I personally don't think paying extra for a metal build is worth it provided the mechanisms and switches live up to CH's reputation. Forget all other details though, the mini-joystick is reason enough to buy this (and why I gave it 5 stars). For Elite Dangerous, it is excellent for fine lateral and vertical thruster control. Two minor gripes: The front finger-buttons are a little too easy to activate so don't assign anything too catastrophic to them! The thumb-stick on mine does not quite return to the dead center and remains very slightly above on the vertical axis. This is easily fixed by configuring a small dead-zone in the game or with the CH software.
