Product Overview Ultimate USB mic for professional recording

The Yeti is one of the most advanced and versatile multi-pattern USB microphones available anywhere. Combining three capsules and four different pattern settings, the Yeti is an ultimate tool for creating amazing recordings, directly to your computer. With exceptional sound and performance, the Yeti can capture anything with a clarity & ease unheard of in a USB microphone.

Create unparalleled recordings directly in your computer with Blue Microphone's Yeti USB Microphone. The Yeti uses Blue Microphone's proprietary tri-capsule technology to produce pristine, studio-quality recordings. It features four different pattern settings so you can record vocals, instrumental music, podcasts, or interviews in ways that would normally require multiple microphones. With simple controls for headphone volume, pattern selection, instant mute, and microphone gain, you'll be creating exceptional recordings right out of the box.

The Yeti features Blue's innovative triple capsule array, allowing for recording in stereo or your choice of three unique patterns, including cardioid, omnidirectional, and bidirectional, giving you recording capabilities usually requiring multiple microphones.

The Yeti utilizes a high quality analog-to-digital converter to send incredible audio fidelity directly into your computer, a built-in headphone amplifier for zero-latency monitoring, and simple controls for headphone volume, pattern selection, instant mute, and microphone gain located directly on the microphone. There are no drivers to install - simply plug the Yeti into your PC or Mac, load up your favorite recording software, and record something amazing.

Legendary Features
The legend of the Yeti continues with the most advanced and versatile multi-pattern USB microphone roaming the wild today. The Yeti features tools and recording capabilities usually requiring multiple microphones and devices, all with the simplicity of a plug 'n play USB microphone.

4 settings. Endless possibilities
You can quickly select from each of Yeti's four pattern settings (stereo, cardioid, omnidirectional, bidirectional) by simply rotating the pattern selector knob. The chart below shows each pattern's symbol, sound source direction, and suggested recording applications.

For a more in-depth look at each pattern, please refer to the detailed descriptions and frequency response charts further down the page.

Stereo
The Stereo mode is great for capturing a realistic stereo image. To start, point the microphone at the sound source that you want to record (the "front" of the microphone is the side of the microphone with the Blue Microphones Logo). Depending on the instrument and/or sound that you want to achieve, place the grill of the microphone anywhere from 2 inches to several feet in front of the sound source. By centering the sound source, you will get equal amounts of signal in both the left and right channels. If you want a little more of the signal in the right channel, move the sound source a little to the right side of the mic (as if one is behind the microphone), and if you want a little more of the signal in the left channel, move the sound source to the left (as if you are behind the microphone). Alternatively, you can record everything as centered as possible, and easily adjust the position when you're mixing the recording. If you want the sound in the right or left channel only, you should try using the cardioid, bidirectional or the omnidirectional setting, and use your software to hard-pan the sound to the left or the right.

Cardiod
Cardioid is the most commonly used mode and can be useful in most any situation. If you are recording vocals, a podcast, or a voiceover, cardioid is likely your best choice. When recording in cardioid, sound directly in front of the microphone is picked up while the sound at the rear and sides of the microphone is not picked up. Therefore, you will want to arrange the source directly in front of the microphone. Cardioid will deliver the most direct, rich sound, but will not offer as much airiness or presence as the other recording modes.

Omnidirectional
Omnidirectional means that the microphone picks up sound equally from all directions. This setting is perfect for recording a group of musicians all playing at the same time, recording a conversation between multiple parties around a room, a conference call, or any other situations where you want to capture the ambience of 'being there.' Because sound is picked up from all directions in this mode, the orientation of the microphone isn't crucial, but as a good rule of thumb, start by orienting the front of the microphone at the primary sound source you wish to record.

Bidirectional
Bidirectional means that the microphone picks up sound at the front and rear of the microphone, while the sounds to the sides are "rejected", or not picked up. The bidirectional setting is very useful in achieving a nuanced, pleasant sound when recording musical instruments, and is perfect for recording an interview with two or more guests. By placing the microphone between two or more subjects (front of microphone facing one source, rear of microphone facing another), you can achieve a natural sound without the complexity of using multiple microphones. Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Mic This is an excellent mic, and in my opinion, the best mic you can buy in this price range. The sound quality is crystal clear with great tone. I use this for voice overs, commentary and podcasting and it's incredibly versatile in that respect. In cardioid mode with the gain set low, you can get a great recording of your voice with 99% of the background noise cut out. Set to omnidirectional with the gain turned up, you can pick up a pin dropping two rooms away. The monitor feature is also excellent. Plugging in a standard set of headphones into the mic gives you zero-delay feedback on your voice, while also playing system audio. This is great for remote podcasting or music recording. For example, When I'm recording a podcast, I get zero latency monitoring on my own voice, and also get the audio from Mumble through the same set of headphones. My only minor complaint is the included desk stand. It's extremely well made and sturdy, but it has zero shock absorbtion, meaning sounds from the surface it's on get transferred to the mic. For example, if you have this on your desk and you're typing at the same time, it will pick up every keystroke. You can solve this by placing the stand on something soft (I used a rolled up t-shirt)...but a cheap scissor-arm mic stand is recommended. Only other minor niggle is that because of the placement of the controls, this mic won't fit a generic shock mount, and Blue's custom made mount is a little expensive at around £60 03 October 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good Performance The Microphone is very sensitive and can the gain can be set according to the distance you're speaking from. The more you turn the gain up the more noise it will be picking up from the surroundings. Most of the time I am not using it for voice overs, just talk videos. which means a greater distance than 6 inches away. Hence it picks up noise which I have to remove in audacity. The quality of the recording is still great. The microphone itself feels great as it has a metal grill and body, which gives it a nice heavy feel. If you have a relatively small desk, however, it sticks out like a sore thumb because of its size. The only features that could be improved are the thumb screws on the side that hold the microphone in place when tightened but easily become lose after tilting the microphone a few times, which causes the microphone to slam against the stand. I therefore recommend tightening the screws every time you adjust the microphone and also place a small piece of foam on the part of the stand where it is likely to slam to prevent cosmetic scuffs. Great product overall 21 August 2015

Rated 5 out of 5 by The product is excellent for work projects I bought the blue yet mic after recommendations from colleagues in the US. I need to use it for Podcasts and animation videos. The sound quality is excellent and even although I work in a really noisy office you can barely hear any background noise. A great purchase and a great price. Would definitely recommend this product to anyone who works in learning and development and needs a microphone for similar projects. 04 July 2015

Rated 5 out of 5 by Brilliant sound quality, and superb build quality I bought this for my daughter who has her own kind of blog going on and who also records songs in the kitchen! The 4 different pattern settings are perfect for switching from voice over style work to recording her singing along with an acoustic guitar. The build quality is superb and the MIC stands very sturdy on its base. 21 April 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great Multi-Purpose Mic If you want a professional mic for whatever reason, this is the one to get. The only issue I've had with it so far is that when trying to record audio with audacity, the left and right channels aren't 50/50 all the time, but that's easily fixed by plugging into another port. 18 April 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by My first Pro mic, stunned with the quality Boy does my video work sound better with this! Having used a headset mic boom arm for years, this is a heck of a step up! Great audio can be had from this when set up correctly! Voice over work is amazing now 29 March 2015
