Product Overview
This PTZ camera from BirdDog features NewTek's technology, NDI. Inside, a Sony CMOS Backlit sensor powers an amazing image in the form of 1080p60 with 30x optical zoom. For fast action, the quick autofocus keeps the camera in the mix without missing a beat, with the zoom being lightning quick too. Once set up, you can go via SDI, HDMI or NDI and do all three at the same time, just in case the connection over the network happens to fail. You also get the option for Power over Ethernet if your setup supports it.
What is NDI?
Network Device Interface is an open source technology developed NewTek to adapt a network into transferring video signals over it to a destination. NDI is now the industry standard for network based video production and in the future, might begin to replace SDI and HDMI as the current hardware standard for cables, as Ethernet and inexpensive network switches are far cheaper in comparison.
PTZ Controller
BirdDog also have their own PTZ controller (sold separately) with RS422, RS485 and RS232 control.
Comms and Central
Comms is a free piece of software allows a director and 4 other BirdDog devices to have talkback and communication across an NDI feed for simple directing from afar. Central is BirdDog's way of taking in all NDI feeds on a network and then decoding them by driving them to BirdDog 4K, Mini or Studio devices with an output via the device's HDMI or SDI ports. Central's free version allows for 2 destinations, with both pieces of software having paid versions to unlock the true potential of NDI via BirdDog (coming soon).
