Nektar - 'Impact LX88+'
MIDI Controller Keyboard
This is a B-Stock item. Please note that B-Stock items are either ex display, ex repair, or have previously been returned by another customer.
The 88-key Impact MIDI Controller
The Impact LX88+ is a unique USB MIDI controller keyboard designed for keyboard players looking for more capabilities. It’s stacked with intelligent, expressive performance control and hooks up automatically to your DAW. If you would rather control MIDI hardware, you can use the build-in MIDI Out as well as the broad range of MIDI programming options.
Nektar DAW Integration specifically designed for most of the popular DAWs, takes the functionally of the Impact LX88+ above and beyond the possibilities offered by standard a MIDI controller keyboard. The Impact LX88+ does the hard work for you, so you can focus on your creativity.
Impact LX88+ MIDI Keyboard
Accommodates Consistent OutputThe 88 note velocity sensitive keyboard is a semi-weighted action with medium tension. Attentively balanced with an even and dynamic response, the Impact LX88+ includes 4 velocity curves that gradually increase in dynamics suitable for any playing style.
For those that don’t need velocity, there are 3 fixed velocity levels that cater for a consistent output. Whilst complimenting the design of the Impact LX88+, the full-size, piano-style keys are covered for protection against dirt and dust.
The transpose buttons as well as pitch bend and modulation wheels are very accessible, so you can quickly shift the keyboard up or down as needed, or apply additional expression with the wheels.
Split, Layer & Transpose Buttons
Quick & Easy AssignmentThe Impact LX88+ keyboard can send up to 3 zones at the same time. Press Layer to add the layer zone and split to add the split zone. When split or layer is active, the corresponding LED button is lit to save you from confusion.
Each zone can be programmed to send to its own unique MIDI channel with fundamental settings either pre-programmed or adjusted whilst performing.
This is where the 2 Transpose buttons below the Split and Layer buttons come in. Four functions are adjustable on the fly so you can make essential changes at any time, even whilst playing. A key combination makes assignment quick and easy with the LED display telling you which option you have selected.
Options include sending out MIDI Program Messages, change the Global MIDI Channel or select any of Impact LX88+’s 5 user presets with either the Octave or Transpose buttons.
Selecting either split or layer while pressing the Transpose buttons cleverly changes the setting currently assigned for the corresponding zone.
Fully ProgrammableAt the centre of Impact LX88+’s control panel, you’ll find Nine 30mm faders, 9 MIDI buttons and 8 encoders. Each control is fully programmable to send any MIDI CC message for use with hardware or software MIDI products. When used with Nektar DAW integration, the controls can take on a life of their own, providing flexible pre-mapped DAW control giving you the best of both options.
Control settings can be saved in any of the 5 Impact LX88+ presets to bring back up at any time. If you switch Null on, any parameter values are saved when you change presets so you avoid parameter jumping.
Instant AccessThe 9 LED buttons can be programmed with a wide range of MIDI messages such as sending specific MIDI Program changes. The last MIDI Program message sent is stored so a corresponding LED button lights up correctly, even if Program was sent via, the transpose buttons or the Setup menu. You can also set the 8 pads to send Program messages so you’ll have instant access to 17 buttons without changing a preset or pad map.
When used with Nektar DAW Integration the LED buttons point out the status for a number of parameters. In Instrument mode, an instrument plugin’s switch parameters can be learned with the LED showing you when it’s on or off. In Mixer mode the LED buttons control Mute and Solo, with the LED colors displaying the corresponding channels current status.
Easy To AssignThe Impact LX88+’s 8 velocity sensitive pads make life easy for groove and beat creation. Set to trigger at a light touch with a nice and even velocity response, finger drumming is now much easier. Each pad can be assigned any MIDI note number or MIDI cc message for use as MIDI trigger or toggle buttons.
Thanks to the “Pad Learn” feature there are no complex menus for a task that’s crucial to getting the most out of your pads. Simply just select a pad, play the note or drum sound you want on the keyboard and assignment is complete.
Assignments are stored over power cycling, so when you switch your system off for the night, you don’t lose your settings. 4 pad map locations can also store your settings to be used again in future.
The 4 color LED illumination not only looks great but also displays which pad map is currently selected and can also tell you which type of MIDI message each pad sends.
With Nektar DAW Integration, the pads are automatically mapped in for example Reason and Bitwig. Clips and Scenes can be triggered in Bitwig using the two Clips and Scenes options. When using Reason, a clever control of Reason’s location points creates a similar experience with scenes triggering in any Reason song.
Nektar DAW Integration
Supports Most DAWsImpact LX88+ software integration supports most of the popular DAWs. A common workflow gives you access to many of the essential functions you often need when recording and performing with your Impact LX88+. Thankfully, this is all hassle free. Simply complete the installation process and you’re all set.
Impact LX88+ DAW integration currently supports Cubase, Digital Performer, FL Studio, Garageband, Logic, Nuendo, Reaper, Reason, Sonar and Studio One. Buttons and controls are labeled so you wont have to remember how they’re assigned. This makes the Impact LX88+ easy to use but with enough extra features included to challenge even the most experienced user. .
Transport & NavigationThe 6 dedicated transport buttons are always accessible and set to control Cycle, Rewind, Forward, Stop, Play and Record. Press Shift to gain access to different options such as Goto L, Set L, Set R, Undo, Click and Mode. Dedicated Track up/down and Patch up/down buttons are found below the display.
Mixer ControlIf you press mixer the first 8 Impact LX+ faders are assigned to control 8 channels of your DAWs mixer. The alternate Bank up/down option moves control assignments to the next or past group of 8 channels. The 9th fader is assigned to the currently selected channel so you always know where to find it.
The buttons under the faders follow the channel assignment of their corresponding fader and can control Mute or Solo. Pan for the group of 8 channels controlled by the faders is managed by the 8 pots. Fader 9 is used for control volume of the current mixer channel as well as master volume.
The Impact LX also has shortcuts for opening and closing your DAWs mixer window so you can see what’s going on. Which helps you get the best out of your screen.
Instrument PresetThe Instrument option assigns all controls to instrument parameters once an instrument track is selected in your DAW. Nektar mapping ensures this is done automatically, so you can start editing instantly. Many devices and plugins are pre-mapped to match the blue control labels on the Impact LX+.
With Nektar DAW Integration, the page button allows you to switch between Default settings and User settings with LEDs clearly displaying which page is currently on. Each page changes assignments of the 8 pots, leaving the User page for your own assignments. Many pre-mapped plugins take advantage of the two pages. So you can use it for instant access to both, oscillator 1 and oscillator 2 parameters from the pots, changing between oscillators using the Page button.
In addition, a typical control layout places amp and filter ADSR envelopes on the faders for immediate access regardless of whether the Default or User page is selected. “Grab” and Nektar Maps The Nektar “Grab” mode allow you to temporarily set parameters to controls as you work on your project. Simply hold down shift while moving the parameters on the instrument you want to control followed by moving the controls on Impact LX+ you want them assigned to.
Some DAWs even supports saving “grabbed” parameters to a Nektar map, which means you can completely change your assignments for future use. The implementation depends on the DAW.
User Presets & Programming MIDI
Quickly SwitchableThe Impact LX88+ is easy to come to grips with if you mainly want to use your DAW’s MIDI learn features. There are 2 non-overlapping, read-only presets on the Mixer and Instrument buttons so you can easily switch between independent and unique setups. These presets are also used for Impact LX88+’s integrated DAW support. There are also 5 user presets are programmed for GM compatible and “learn-friendly” setups plus they can be overwritten with your own settings.
For example, you could set up Impact LX88+ for use with Pro Tools or Ableton Live, which both have limited integration options. Using Impact LX8+”s generic MIDI controller capabilities, setups can get you a long way. With the Impact LX88+’s “Null” function switched to on, parameter values are saved for when you switch between presets to avoid parameter jumping.
