Rated 2 out of 5 by steve14 Had a lot of trouble getting this thing working
Using windows 7 64bit and it's very fiddly to get this thing working and set up right. Also I can only use my mic in one application at a time now. Haven't found a way of fixing that yet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by fluff high quality stereo sound
Bought this card on reccommendation. I only use it for listening to CD's via my PC and run it into an Inca Tech claymore MK2 integrated amplifier. To my ears this is a very nice sounding sound card , great detail and dynamics without being "HiFi" , ie the music comes through. Its good enough that I no longer feel the need to listen to my multibox main system

Rated 5 out of 5 by Voxstream A superb sound card
The Asus Xonar Essence is extremely good. Although a little long in the tooth, it still performs well.
It beats the dust out of the so called hi def on board sound as supplied by many mobo manufactures.
Being PCIe it will work in any size socket without any problem with video cards.
It's supplied with a 3.5mm mini jack to phono converter lead that's very useful.
Clean clear gutsy sound with a very punchy bass output if you have the right speakers, ie decent quality with a sub woofer.
I can thoroughly recommend this sound card, most entertaining.
Read the spec's for your self and see if it's suitable for your needs. Again a very nice bit of kit.

Rated 4 out of 5 by Jeremy Very good, but needs to make its purpose clearer.
This is an excellent card, offering a wide range of effects, including virtual surround, and acoustics. However, it needs to be made clearer that this card is more for the gaming and listening market, and not quite so good for recording.
One reason for this is that the direct monitoring of any instrument (despite changing the ASIO settings!) has an inexcusable lag of over 100ms. After some discourse with ASUS technical support, this issue was not resloved, and instead I opted for a Scarlett 2i2 external USB audio interface.
I did, however, hang on the the Xonar card, and used it in my gaming machine instead, as for that purpose, I must re-iterate that it is quite superb.
Just don't be mislead as to the card's primary function.
