Now, I have been using a Creative Recon3D with the 5.25" DVD Drve bay breakout Box, however it is starting to show itsage and so i was looking for something to replace it and I needed the ability to switch headphones and speakers, plus has Volume controls and this looked like it would fit the bill a treat.
It has however been a slightly disappointing card. It has some lovely warm sound and has a smooth natural warming sound that is very much different to the Creative Recon3Dfor certain tacks, however, I have also found that when you listen very carefully, the sound does fluctuate very very slightly. almost as if the volume is being turned up and down by the tiniest little bit, but its definitely there. Being a fussy Audiophile, I have to say that this is a seriously irritating problem.
Also when playing games, and it is under heavy load, I have found it can crackle and hiss. Not good at all.
I have dug out the Xonar D2X from another machine, just to compare the two, and the D2X is definitely better and does not have that fluctuation that this strix card has.
I was wondering if it is just my card, but Im not too sure. I have also tried the card in other machines and with other speaker setups, and the sound is certainly noticeably fluctuating on all the motherboards, and so I really need to hear another card of the same.
I would NOT be buying another one of these cards and I will be replacing it with a different card sometime, but I am in no real rush.

Rated 1 out of 5 by Steweh EMI Shielding is mediocre.
I bought this to power a meaty set of headphones (150ohms) as it had a built in amp. That part is fine. The software bundled is OK, It too has the responsiveness of a rock, with every adjustment of the equalizer having to make a save before any changes take place.
But the real deal breaker is the amount of EMI (electro magnetic interference) that it picks up. I have a pretty decent gaming rig which may make a difference as the soundcard picks up the whirring from the two GPU fans, and the power supply as well as any EMI from the Motherboard. You also get horrible background noise when moving your mouse.
Best bet is to get an external DAC and Amp, or external USB soundcard. If I could I would definitely ask for my money back on this product.
