Rated 5 out of 5 by from More than cheerful A typical microATX case will have 4 PCIe slot covers, so there are 4 positions for PCIe slots on a microATX motherboard. One of the big differences between boards lies in what positions are filled, and how. The A320M-DVS has a good layout, in my view, which is why I chose it, and that is with a short slot (PCIE1) above the long slot (PCIE2) for a graphics card (‘above’ if the motherboard is in a conventional vertical position), with the remaining two positions unfilled. That’s sensible, because if you do use a graphics card where the fans cover ‘PCIE3’, then using anything in ‘PCIE4’ would interrupt their airflow. You could put the long slot in position 3, or in position 4 if it didn’t interfere with the connections along the bottom edge of the motherboard, but position 2 is the ‘sweet spot’, and position 1 a good place for a small expansion card. This PCIe slot layout is shared with the marginally more expensive A320M-HDV, which also has an M2 connector (left off the -DVS, although the board is marked out for one). I didn’t find the absence of M2 the slightest problem, as my build used an SSD as the boot device. I paired the board with a Ryzen 2600, and found that the in-the-box cooler would only go one way round, or else the tab with the AMD logo interferes with the RAM. Clearly, the A320 has limitations (fewer SATA ports, no M2, fewer RAM slots etc) compared to the high-end boards, but the R4.0 board supports Ryzen 3000 series and is no slouch, and is much, much, cheaper. It is probably ideal when paired with a ‘G’ processor with onboard graphics as that would give much better airflow and also make the video output sockets on the motherboard come alive (I connected my monitor to one of them by mistake, and spent a couple of minutes puzzled!). As it is, they could do with some covers to show that they aren’t enabled. The board slid easily into a cheap ‘cube’ case and is powered by a Seasonic modular PSU. An observation that I will make is that microATX cases don’t usually have many pin-outs for case fans, and the A320M-DVS is no exception. This puzzles me, because a microATX board is likely to go into a small case, and probably needs more fans. However, as the fan connectors can produce 1W, and typical Arctic fans consume 0.25W, one connector can power multiple fans, even if that does make it impossible to have motherboard control of fan speed.

Ryzen 3000 compatible?

is this mobo run the ryzen 3000 cpus out of the box?

Yes, it is. I mentioned it in my review, and there's a sticker on the box that say it is. Since I wrote the review, I've bought a second instance of this motherboard, which I twinned with an Athlon 3000G, and also arranged to boot off an SSD. This is for my reserve computer, to use if the main one packs up for any reason. The main one boots from an NVME drive on an Asrock B450 board.Amazingly, the A320 computers (one with a Ryzen 2600, one with the 3000G) with SSDs boot faster than the B450 with NVME and a Ryzen 2600. Aside from that, the performance in Office apps is identical. Unless you have multi-threaded applications like games etc, the faster processors are not particularly beneficial.. This board is brilliant using the onboard graphics and the 3000G, leaving the case uncongested.
