Rated 5 out of 5 by from A worthy flagship to lead the Apu tribe into the new age of DirectX 12 The Godavari A10-7870K may be described as a slight upgrade of the Kaveri A10-7850K but it is a very significant increment. When I can overclock the 7870K at 4.6GHz as easily as I could overclock the 7850K at 4.4GHz and when I can run P95 stable at 4.7GHz when the 7850K could only manage 4.4GHz with the same settings I don't call that 'slight'. Where the 7850K default integrated graphics ran at 720MHz the 7870K runs at 866MHz - and that 'slight' 20% increase is backed with an upgrade to the microcode that gives you effective dual graphics in OpenGL apps even when you can't crossfire (eg.LuxballHDR combined = 16649 [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] + [email protected]). Not that the APU Crossfire block against GDDR5 will matter for very much longer with DirectX12 only a few weeks away for a processor tuned up to take advantage of Split Frame Rendering. None of this means everything I do feels 10-15% faster but it does mean that when I push the system it will go further - and sometimes a lot further. But it does come with a warning. While both the 7870K and the 7850K are unlocked APUs the 7870K could also be described as 'unshackled' and the more possible to be pushed too far. If you intend to OC this chip keep your eye on the internet forums to find out what its limits are.
