Reviews
Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 15 reviewers.
Rated 1 out of 5 by Subjective sound AKG 702 looks like a 1950's milk crate on top of your head, the leather? headstrap is uncomfortable if you have very short hair like a skinhead or a shaven head and I mean uncomfortable within minutes and you might find (like I did) that you will be constantly adjusting the headphone because of the annoying leather headstrap. The ear pads are quite hard and not that comfortable but maybe after many hours of use they might soften a touch? The human ear is a very complex organ and the hearing system is a very complex one and superb by design but it is just a conduit for sound to enter into the brain and it is the amazing design of the human brain that actually makes sense of depth and space and everything else. Headphones just have a manufacturer signature, all the snobbery surrounding headphones by some reviewers is exactly that snobbery and pseudo science, sound is all in your head literally. They sound ok but no better than a £25 pair of other headphones I have used, and to think that some claimed (on some sites) that the AKG 702 once had a recommended retail price of £300, what a joke and there is no way they are worth that kind of money. I do not recommend this headphone even for £100. 21 April 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by A great entry into high-end audio This is my first pair of high-quality headphones, and the first I've spent more than £30 on. The clarity and detail is great, to the point that in classical pieces you can hear the musicians picking up their instruments and turning pages in preparation to play. The bass is accurate but not as strong as some may like owing to it's neutral and open-backed nature. Due to them being open-backed they also have very good imaging, and orchestral pieces in particular allow you to hear where sounds are being played from. They work on portable devices, but even using a basic amp is a night-and-day difference. If you want an affordable entry in to higher-quality headphones, these are for you. 05 April 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by A true statement from AKG The clarity is exceptional. I am not a basshead, although even if I were I would have no problem with it; going right down to 10kHz it sustains itself and is both punchy and we'll controlled, with a lack of any roll off. Highs are crisp, and whilst it sometimes occurs to me that vocals are a little veiled by an artificial curtain, this has slowly lapsed as I have broken them in more. I use these along with a pair of Beyerdynamic DT880s and both pairs complement each other beautifully. Snap these up whilst you can at this price! As for Scan, I was very impressed and even with the cheapest delivery option it still took a mere two days; I would use them again without hesitation. 02 April 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Good sound, perhaps not the most comfortable I got these for mixing as they're open-backed after reading more than one amazingly stellar review! They do sound excellent so top marks there. However, they are not as comfortable as I thought they'd be. Could be my head, ears or both, and perhaps I haven't quite found the best position but I find I'm fiddling with them a lot of the time, trying to make them more comfortable so a definite one star loss for that, I'm afraid. 31 March 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Go for 701 Having a K701, my expectations for K702 were high and I have to say that despite the good price from Scan, I am disappointed with the set. The craftsmanship of K701 (Made in Austria) and the materials used are much, much better than what you'll find on K702 (Made in China). While having a removable cable is a bonus on these, the overall quality just doesn't match the older model. Even though the sound is very similar, I find myself reaching for the old, grubby headphones much more often than the new set. For a small difference in price, K701 is still a better value. 14 March 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent quality and value at discounted price Caution: I am no expert on headphones and am a long way from being an audiophile ... The K702s (and, for that matter, the Q701s) are solidly built and very comfortable. Very good 'out of the box' in all those ways 'people' talk about: highs, mids, lows, all distinct and musical, separately and collectively; soundstage and imaging very good and detail is impressive, without the sound becoming harsh. In these respects, I find them very well balanced, for me; and I expect all this to get better as the weeks roll by, assuming they 'burn in' (I've come to believe, though many do not, in 'burn in'!). "You pays yer money" and I really don't know if they would represent great value at full RRP of £350. At about a third of that price, however, they seem a bargain. 24 January 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great deal price. Great clear sound, good high and low end comfortable to wear. Very well made. 02 January 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Absolutely fantastic reference headphones. Highly recommended. I started using these with a generic sound card with a built in amp and experienced the following. I was completely blown away by the sound of these headphones. The sound stage is open and has wonderful clarity. The subtle details that are usually lost or muffled in cheaper headphones are very clear with these. The sound separation is fantastic, it feels very deliberate, providing incredible clarity on all of the different instruments and voices. The base is present and full, it is not overpowering. Probably not what a base head is looking for though. When the amp feature of my sound card was disabled, they still sound great but are a fair bit quieter. If you can get a comfortable level of sound though, your experience should not be bad. When combined with my external DAC and AMP everything is so much better. The headphones pick up a new life. Everything written above is amplified and it's clear that these phones are so much better off with an external DAC and AMP. Summary: Regardless of your equipment the phones are great. They are a little difficult to power though and may not be able to reach the volume you want on some devices. With external DAC and AMP they pick up a whole new life, this is definitely the way you should use the headphones if you can afford it. 26 December 2015

Answer:
Mine are Chinese as are all the new ones now on the market. That said, I don't think they are of any lesser sonic quality, and they are certainly still up to being thrown around in a studio.

It is long; I think around 3m. It is detachable and you can also buy a coiled cable from AKG.
