Akasa AK-210 Cool Blue LED 40mm Low Noise Chipset Cooler is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good for chips with a heatspreader This cooler comes with thermal adhesive tape across the base of the heatsink for attaching it to a chipset - or indeed an old graphics card - that has a heatspreader rather than a bare chip. If you're not sure whether your chipset has a heatspreader, ask yourself - is it large (about 1 inch by 1 inch or bigger), and does it have a matte black, almost blackboard-like, appearance perhaps with a circle of metal in the middle? If so, it has a heatspreader, and this cooler is perfect. If your chipset is small and reflective then it's the bare die and this cooler is not as suitable. The heatsink part of this product seems to be solid aluminium, the fan is inaudible at full speed which is great if you're concerned about noise, and although it also betrays low airflow the size of the heatsink means it shouldn't struggle to cool a previously uncooled chipset.

Questions & Answers

What Voltage and Amperage is the Fan?

I am running [email protected] on an old Xperia Z2 Smartphone which makes it run it run very hot and I think this would be an ideal solution. But, I need to know what kind of power supply I would need for the fan. Will I need a mains transformer or can it be rigged to run off of a USB port.

Hello, This fan is designed to be used to keep a computer chipset cool and not designed for a smartphone. It would be powered via a computers motherboard. Regards.

Can this fan and heat sink be used for other purposes?

In your answer to my previous question you only said that this product was for cooling a chipset. While I am aware of what this heat sink and fan is designed to do, I'm more interested in what it can do. I have looked it up on the manufacturers website and found that this fan runs on 12V DC at 100ma. So, it I was to connect this fan to a 12V DC 100ma mains power supply adaptor and use the pre applied adhesive thermal tape to stick it to the back of the old smartphone, would it work? This phone will never be used as a phone again, it's just going to sit on my sideboard crunching numbers for [email protected]

Hello, As it is not designed for this use we cannot advise on whether or not this would be a suitable method to cool down a smartphone. Regards,
