8 Port Netgear Gigabit Switch 300 series Metal Casing is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good well made product Reasonably priced and excellent quality. Purchased for home networking so we could stream from systems and sky boxes etc without slow downs thanks to the high gigabit bandwidth. Really handy that it automatically detects the need to cross over connections, eliminating the need for crossover cables for the router to switch connection.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Excellent PoE switch for Small Businesses The Netgear JGS516PE is an excellent entry level PoE switch designed with small business users in mind. The switch is not a web managed switch and the software supplied does not work out of the box with Windows 8 (so make sure you have an XP/Vista/Win7 PC around to update the firmware and apply a basic configuration before deployment). I was particularly impressed with the quality of the case (metal with 19" rack mount brackets) and low noise construction (could barely hear the switch when powered up) as many PoE switches can be particularly intrusive - especially if installed in an office environment rather than a server room. This switch would make an excellent addition to an existing network for providing high speed powered connectivity for IP phones and Wireless APs. Highly recommended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid construction and proper internal bandwidth A lot of 8 port desktop models, even more expensive ones, have a 2gbit internal bandwidth meaning that if you have more than 2 ports running at full speed, it will slow down the rest of the ports. This unit has a full 16gbit internal bandwidth (1gbit up/down per port) which allows each port to run at full speed no matter how many devices are connected. The odds of ever needing that in a desktop switch are unlikely, but if you're buying a gbit switch, you may as well get the full speed right? This unit also has a metal case and the ports are laid out opposite to the power which is perfect for desktop use, most others have it all on the same side which is illogical for desktop use. Overall, I'm happy with it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does exactly what it needs to This product does exactly what it's supposed to, and does it well. Not much else to say. Good product.

Questions & Answers

Will this fit in to my network arrangements

I currently use WIFI and would like to go the Ethernet switch/cable route but I'm not to sure of the workings of such a setup. I have drawn a picture using MS Paint to illustrate what I would like to achieve and all I need to know is if this will work Ok; does it need to be managed or unmanaged; can the switch connect directly to the Router etc. I would like to use a Netgear Gigabit Switch Rusty Pete (ratchet & clank)
Asked by: Tefal
Just plug in a cable from your router to any of the switches ports and your away, connect all your other devices to the switch. Its unmanaged and really for a home network you don`t need anything else, full bandwidth up and down stream too, great product.
