Questions & Answers

Is this a Shingled Drive (SMR)?

Is this a Shingled Drive (SMR)? There have been recent reports of SMR drives not behaving well in RAID sets during resilvering of arrays.
Asked by: LumpyTrumpet
Yes they’re SMR drives, I’ve discovered I have 9x of these in my 20-disk away and am less than pleased. You probably know already now but here is some official word from WD showing what their current gen drives are. But yes, 1-6TB EFAX drives are SMR https://blog.westerndigital.com/wd-red-nas-drives/
