Product Overview 0.6 meter Multi-lane Internal (SFF-8087) SAS/SATA breakout cable, forward, 4x (SFF-8482) w/ pwr

LSI’s award winning Multi-lane design enables highly reliable and streamlined enterprise-class SAS and SATA storage solutions by greatly reducing the number of cables needed to connect controllers, backplanes, and standard SAS/SATA drives.

The Multi-lane SATA cable/connection system is fast, secure, simple, and clutter free. It combines the RAID controller’s multiple SAS/SATA ports into single locked connections. Multiple 3Gb/s or 6Gb/s lanes of SAS/SATA traffic travel through just one cable from the RAID controller to the system backplane or to multiple hard drives with a breakout cable.
Features • Multiple lanes of high speed SAS/SATA traffic through a single cable.
• Increased system reliability.
• Reduced cable count.
• Streamlined storage.
• Locked connections.

In computing terms, system buses are used to connect various components to the motherboard’s core logic and, often, to each other. Modern PCs run with a multitude of high-speed buses ranging from the interconnects between, say, the chipset and the CPU, graphics card, memory, and peripherals.

Reviews
60cm Broadcom CBL-SAS8087OCF06M, Mini-SAS (SFF-8087) to x4 SFF-8482 with power is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great if you need it. Having just bought my first Enterprise-class SAS3 device, this is an ideal adapter to be able to use SAS3 drives on SAS2 controllers that use the SFF-8087 socket. That said, remember that any SAS2 to SAS3 adapter will be 1 channel, and the drive I have is a 2-channel drive. The ultimate result of this is that the connection from the drive to the controller will be just 6Gb/s and not SAS3's 12Gb/s. This will be a bottleneck to SAS3 drives which can push more than 6Gb/s. Thankfully the drive I'm using is spinning rust and not an SSD so (apart from brief cache bursts) it's not going to get close to the limit posed here. SAS3 can have several (5?) channels per drive, which would especially benefit SAS SSDs, so it's worth thinking carefully about getting this for a SAS2 controller to SAS3 Solid State Drive, as they would likely be bottlenecked. Your money might be better spent putting towards an SAS3 controller instead of this cable. I'm aware this is a product with a very limited scope so I just thought I'd review it to reassure other users that it worked for someone. The drive mentioned was picked up on the controller straight away and I will review it when it's done formatting, has passed some testing and has been successfully fed some data.
