The arrival of the solid-state drive (SSD) has revolutionised the speed at which modern PCs perform common tasks. This is because SSDs have no moving parts, compared to larger, bulkier mechanical drives, thus they store information on memory chips. This means that accesses, reads and writes are many, many times faster

Solid-state drives (SSDs) are fast becoming the must-have PC components of 2010. Serving as primary storage space for high-end computers, SSD's super-fast transfer rates and near-instant accesses offer genuine advantages over traditional spindle-based magnetic drives.

A motherboard’s main job is to act as a conduit between the various hardware elements that make up a PC. It needs to be able to link the desired CPU(s), system memory, graphics card, hard drive(s), and add-in cards and enable them to work in harmony.

512GB Samsung SM961 Polaris NVMe MLC V-NAND M.2 SSD, PCIe 3.0 x4, Read 3200 MB/s, Write 1700 MB/s, 330k IOPS OEM is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product easy to install works fine The nvme ssd here is definately a step in the right direction for my personal build, many people have issues with this when they install but if you look on the net you can find the drivers from samsung's website which let this beauty unleash its full potential, once full installed my pc loads to the log on screen before my screen can turn on... so its blazing fast... i would still recommend a higher spec one if you can afford them this was the top of my budget on my build. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works with Gigabyte 8 series MB I managed to get this working in a gigabyte series 8 motherboard with a m.2 pci-express adapter. I had to use Rufus usb tool and image windows 10 on to a usb in GPT mode. Then I had to partition the disk with a GPT partition type. Then in the BIOS I had to enable uefi bios mode and boot from the USB using that mode. Previously I was using a Crucial MX100 512GB. I can say that it is definitely quicker, however the difference is a smaller jump than moving from mechanical drives to SSD. For example latest Photoshop used to open in 8 seconds now takes 3 seconds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing speeds This is a fantastic product. Added this to an pcie adapter and i am getting aound 2,900 mb/s read and about 1,700 mb/s write. Added this a month ago and also done a fresh install to have this as my boot drive. The reboot times are great. Its about 12-14 seconds from hitting restart to being back on my desktop. It is a pricey product as were SSD drives when the first landed. Hopefully the prices will drop a bit soon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing Drive In conjunction with a Maximus VIII Gene mobo this works like a dream under Win10, with no need for a custom driver. The vanilla Win10 driver, with this motherboard, gives benchmark performance only marginally below the published specs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Blistering fast but FYI... You need to make sure your motherboard m.2 port is PCIe x3. I have the Asus Maximus VII Ranger which is a Haswell board, running a i7 4790K, my m.2 port is only PCIe x2 which I actually didn't realise at first. So when I plugged this into the native m.2 port I was getting 800mb/s read and write, much slower than the advertised 3200mb/s and 1700mb/s speeds. This is not the fault of the SM961! Go buy the Lycom DT-129 (also available at Scan for around £25) and plug the SM961 into that, put that adapter into a PCIe x3 lane on your mobo and you get the full advertised speed. I've now got the SM961 as my boot drive at full rated speed and it's running like a dream.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible Sequential Read and Write Speeds I expected great things from the SM961 but I feel really let down. The only driver support is the inbuilt Windows 10 NVMe driver, neither scan or Samsung will not supply you any drivers for this drive. Benchmarks yield Sequential Read speeds of 1120.83 MB/s and Write of 224.61 MB/s which is awful compared to the older Samsung 950 Pro which has sequential Read of 2036.85 MB/s and Write of 930.27 MB/s in most benchmarks. This may just be a driver issue but not being able to get any support or drivers for a product you purchase makes it pointless. The only possible hope of an optimised driver is if a major PC manufacturer such as HP or Lenovo decide to use the SM961 and are kind enough to produce and publish a driver for download.

Questions & Answers

Does this come with the screw you need for the mb?

I was wondering if it actually came with the screw you need?
Asked by: BigBob123
It does come with the screw but it was taped to the under side of the bag and was not obvious to see.
