For small form factor enthusiasts, the standard SFX power supply form factor has excellent combination of size, power, and affordability. At 100mm deep, however, the standard SFX PSU is also limited in fan size to 80mm. While advances in engineering and components have made modern high-end SFX PSUs quieter than ever, there is still inherent limitation with 80mm fan’s ability to dissipate heat at maximum loading conditions while maintaining satisfactory noise profile for users sensitive to higher-pitch sounds. With this in mind, SilverStone has released a “lengthened” variation of the SFX form factor called, SFX-L. With 30mm of added depth, a SFX-L power supply has enough room to fit a 120mm fan, thus its maximum load noise can be not only lower in intensity (via slower fan speed), but also lower in pitch (due to larger fan size).
The first model to debut in the SFX-L will be the SX500-LG, a 500W model that includes all features available from top of the line SFX SilverStone PSUs such as 80 PLUS Gold efficiency, modular flexible flat cables, and all Japanese capacitors. An ATX adapter bracket is included as well to enable users to install this PSU into any small or even larger cases that do not have SFX mounting holes.
- Designed for 80 PLUS Gold level of efficiency to reduce wasted heat and save on electricity. 100% modular cable design for easy removal in a case with cable routed and tied down. - Flat cables have much greater flexibility to allow for tighter folding and management of cables. ±3% regulation and low ripple & noise performance for high stability. - Ultra-quiet 120mm fan with intelligent RPM control guarantees cool performance and silent operation with minimum of 18dBA during fan operation. The fanless mode operation deactivates when PSU’s internal temperature reaches 41°C. (SX500-LG V1.0) Built-in 120mm fan has excellent airflow and low noise, perfect for quiet home or office use. (SX500-LG V2.0) - Powerful single +12V rail design, perfect for future high-end component upgrades or overclocking. Features
• Silent running 120mm fan with intelligent semi-fanless operation (SX500-LG V1.0) • Silent running 120mm fan with 18dBA minimum (SX500-LG V2.0) • Support SFX-L form factor and ATX via included bracket • High efficiency with 80 PLUS Gold certification • 100% modular cables • All cables made with flexible flat arrays • 500W continuous power output at 40c degree operating temperature rated for 24/7 operation • Class-leading single +12V rail with 40A • Strict ±3% voltage regulation and low ripple & noise • Support dual PCI-E 8/6pin connectors • Active PFC • All Japanese capacitors

Conceived back in 2004 and brought to market just a year later, the 80 PLUS initiative is one of many standards introduced in an effort to increase energy efficiency in modern technology. Targeting computer power supplies, it awards PSUs that are able to achieve an energy efficiency of over 80 per cent at varying workloads and a power factor of 0.9 or more at 100 per cent load.

Dont Use For HT-PC SystemI bought this PSU for a new build HT-PC system in a Silverstone GD04B USB 3.0 Grandia HTPC Black Micro ATX Case.
However this is where these items don't compliment each other - Cable length.
The supplied cables are way too short to reach the Gigabyte H270M DS3H Micro ATX Motherboard.
The 24 pin power cable has no chance of making the connection on the board the 12 pin cable will make it to the 12 pin connector if you have no graphics card but it's like a bow string in tension.
The price of this unit £80 bar a penny is not cheap for a modular PSU and given the fact Silverstone do make longer leads that are compatible with this PSU they're an extra £29 LN83372.
So to get this PSU to work in a Silverstone Case for HT-PC use you'll need to spend almost £110 of your hard earned on a 500W Modular PSU with a 120mm Fan - eyewatering to say the least.
I've had to use an old PSU thats not modular to get up and running and when this was pointed out to those in Scan's customer service team they told me that the leads were specific to this PSU and would be hard to source extensions yet they sell them and no compromise given this order with them ran to £325.
So to recap unless you have a really small system don't even consider this PSU and don't expect any sense from the Scan customer service team when you point out that its unsuitable for an HT-PC build using the same manufacturers case without any non compatibility issues either from Scan or Silverstone

‘s goodCompact, quiet and good.
Runs Overwatch ultra settings using i7 4790K, ASUS Mobo, 32GB ram, 2 SSDs, GTX1060, 1440*900 screen and a partridge in a pear tree.
Replaces the piece of junk Corsair RM 750 that was faulty and kept power surging.

Powers 1080 fineUsed in my Mini ITX SG13 build with i7 6700 & EVGA SC 1080.
Wish it was semi modular as the motherboard power cable is very wide.
Fan is a nice light hum sound.
Scans next day delivery was top notch

Actually SilentReplaced a BeQuiet 400w with this (due to the noise) and couldn't be happier.
Fantastic PSU. Unlike normal SFX PSUs, this SFX-L PSU allows for a larger fan which makes it actually silent.
Still more expensive than a full-size ATX power supply, but much better value than standard SFX.
