Rated 4 out of 5 by 22 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good - don't forget to order cable! I'm very happy with the drive - no problems fitting it in my Chillblast PC or using it. I should have ordered a SATA 3.0 cable at the same time but I managed to get one from the local Maplin shop. 04 May 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Does what it should. It's a hard drive. Speeds seem decent. Can't comment on reliability yet. 22 March 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good drives - pretty quiet under most loads I use 2 of these in RAID1 in a QNAP HS251+ (they are on the certification list) and really have no complaints. If under a lot of load (e.g. if consolidation a backup) then there is some noise, but any mechanical drive is going to be the same. 14 March 2016
Rated 4 out of 5 by Very quiet in NAS Fitted a pair as a RAID setup in a Synology NAS. So far, working very well, NAS is much quieter than I expected. 05 January 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Top class WD drive Bought to replace a 5 year old 2TB WD Green that was starting to get noisy. Well packaged, arrived with enough bubble wrap to protect it from drop damage, and possibly stampeding Elephants, Rhinos & Wildebeast. Easy to install, and instantly recognised by the OS. 2 months in, and absolutely no problems, but I have noticed that compared to its 1TB & 3TB counterparts that are housed in the same tower, this seems to respond slightly slower from rest 27 April 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Too early to tell Hi all I purchased 2 x 4TB WD RED nas drives and they went straight into an HP N40L Microserver with SBS2011 installed, and they were immediately detected. I selected use GPT for both drives and I then I put them into RAID1 via Disk Management. They are storing all my priceless data and they have only been in for around 6 weeks. They arrived in a brown box packaged in a huge amount of bubble wrap. This was a good thing.... They work as they should - although I have noticed they are quieter than the 500GB Seagate and 500GB samsung 7200rpm drives they replaced so I guess that is a good thing. The replaced drives were around 6 or 7 years old. In terms of speed I have noticed no difference but I haven't been testing them too hard! For what I want as a SOHO user to serve files and store media then they are perfect. 11 December 2014
Rated 3 out of 5 by Fast, but quality disappointing. I ordered two 4TB WD Red drives for a new Synology DS415 and had a couple of issues. Issue No 1. is that the WD drives seem to come with some kind of pre-existing partitioning scheme which prevents the Synology NAS from installing correctly (I will review this issue separately). If you add the drive to a Windows PC and delete the partition using 'diskmgmt.msc', and then add the drive to the Synology the install completes OK (I attribute part of the blame here to WD and Synology jointly!) Issue No 2. and this is the most annoying, is that despite reading other similar reviews on this site I ordered two drives and one of these failed after 24 hours. I ran back to back SMART tests for 24 hours and both drives seemed fine, but one soon failed to power up in either the NAS or a Windows PC. WD definitely seem to have an issue with these drives as the same fault appears to be mentioned on several different retail web sites. I subsequently returned the failed WD (top marks to Scan for their simple and effective returns process), and bought two additional Hitachi 4TB HGST 0S03665 Deskstar drives and these have performed flawlessly. I will only use the WD as a standalone drive for non-critical work. 03 November 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by A cavernous and fast drive This hard drive was bought for our media server and has proved itself a great piece of kit from day one. It was simple to install (4 screws were supplied but you'll need a suitably rated SATA cable to get the full speed out of it). It is very quick when transferring files and has no lag when connecting to media on the drive over our network. 4TB is a massive amount of space until you start backing up your DVD and Blu-ray collection so that you can watch them on your TV using Plex/XMBC. Great price, great product and great service. 01 November 2014

Answer:
For warranty on items such as HDDs or specialised components I would always suggest going back to the manufacturer rather than the place of purchase. Unless of course, it was broken on delivery or you want to return the item.

You are advertising the WD40EFRX as both suitable for "1 to 8 Bay NAS Boxes", and yet also saying it has "NASware 2.0".

These statements can't both be true.(according to western digital)

To clarify:
Old NASware 2.0 drives only support 1 to 5 Bay NAS Boxes
Newer NASware 3.0 drives support 1 to 8 Bay NAS Boxes

If you put 8 of the NASware 2.0 drives in an 8-bay NAS box they resonate together and quickly die. That's what the NASware 3.0 firmware fixes. (NB: Users can't change the firmware on these drives themselves due to the factory calibration required.)

So, which drives are you selling?
